We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Mustard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, how does your business help the community?
I work with artists and others to find what I call their Identity DNA. With the advent of connected technology we need our stories to represent who we actually are. In the past a brand, which actually, just means story was imposed by an outside firm based on testing. Today’s sophisticated audiences can smell how false and disingenuous this is. Today’s art and business must be extrapolated from the individual or group and matched with what the world needs. That intersect point is where the magic of understanding and demand connects.

I works with artists to find there signature style and goal. From guest lectures at Parsons and Pratt to individual artists all over the world I create a roadmap for the artist’s goals or help them establish those goals. Artistic success seams random. It is not. It can be reverse engineered.

I am an artist, artistic director and writer of books after growing up in abandonment and poverty. When you give artists a path they imbue the society. When artists can get the success they deserve they are better beings. You create a better culture empowering artists and putting beautiful things that transport us throughout the world.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an art director of Identity DNA for artists, individuals and brands. I grew up poor, abandoned and manipulated. It was not easy. I am survivor. I overcame the challenges by positioning my life as a grand quest, a hero’s journey which I write about in my A Kid’s Book About Resilience. My book that starts to pave a path for artists to be seen is THE ICONIST which won the OWL – Outstanding Works in Literature Award given out by the largest eCommerce bookseller in the world. I have book fully architected that gives artists coordinates to plot themselves on a course to achieving their goal. I am not sure when this book is next book is coming out but it is the work I do everyday.

My journey has been an impossible struggle. It is in that struggle that I have reversed engineered a path for artists in any medium. The challenges are to pick yourself up after disappointments and to recover from the people that don’t support you, leave or try in someway to harm you. So many artists get caught up in these betrayals and get paralyzed. When you have your identity of who you are in all areas of contact with the world, know the volume and type of work you should be doing and truly have the specific goal, you can get there. Artists are often too general about their goal, not sure if they are doing the volume are correct type of work to match the goal or their identity is not aligned with the work and the goal. When identity/the story you tell through all points of contact with the world, you know the volume and correct type of work you should be doing and have a specific goal very straightforward plans can drawn up and completed. When an artist has these three areas dialed they become stabalized and can move down a path despite ups and downs or disappointments.

A path to the NBA is hard but clear. Not so for artists so many artists of great value sit paralyzed because they don’t know what is missing. It seems random. It is not. When an artists has coordinates the road is clear and it also makes them a whole lot happier.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to all of the Angels that helped me along the way and the artists that inspire me to keep going.
