We had the good fortune of connecting with Jana N Nagase and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jana N, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’m an entertainment journalist and film critic so the most important factor of my success is to watch as much movies and TV shows as possible. I’m always honest and about my opinions and views regarding the films or TV shows… if I don’t like, I will know right away. My opinions are genuine! I love independent movies and I’m always spreading the love to newcomers filmmakers, actors, producers…
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Aside of being young at heart, I’m daughter, sister, wife, mom, friend, journalist, film critic, producer, editor. I’m Brazilian, originally from São Paulo and I moved to the US 20 years ago to pursue my masters degree in Broadcast Communication. I love all forms of artist manifestations especially movies and music!
My website and You Tube channel called Jana On Camera feature interviews with directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, etc. from the latest movies (big studios & indie) and TV programs here in the US.
How I got here… well, I never gave up on my dreams and I had a lot of faith. I got a lot of ‘nos’ along the way, but I always used them as a boost to my success and to improve my content. Consistency is key to my business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, now that California is opening up after the pandemic, but I would take them to Manhattan Beach, to Santa Monica Pier, the wineries in Malibu. I love a road trip, so I would drive them to San Diego, make a stop at La Jolla beach. Then, I would go all the way to the north, straight to Solvang, but, first making a stop at Santa Barbara. Almost forgot about Palm Springs, who doesn’t love a desert, right?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to my parents, Maurilio and Nilva. My parent’s constant love and support are what shaped me into the woman and human being I am today. I also would love to dedicate this shoutout to my husband and son, Rodrigo and Ryan, who support me every single day on my career. And to God who gives strength, wisdom and peace to every word I write or say in my interviews.
