We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Noah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janet, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting off my business has been one of the most daring things I have done. For me, I was not in a good place so all I wanted was to keep myself occupied.
I kicked off my business because I wanted to have something doing and I had previously tried being an employee but it did not make a difference.
The urge to be l the reason why people loved something and yearned for it pushed me further.
So I picked up the textile Designing that I loved so much and turned it into something that was not very common where I live.
I had learned Adire making in primary school and I never thought I was going to make it a craft. However, I kept going back there and spent a lot of time watching videos on YouTube.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is an Adire (Tie-dye) clothing brand. Basically, we use colours to tell stores.
What colour do you love? You just have to let us know and we go ahead with your story.
The quality of the service I offer to people set me apart from others. I’m deeply concerned about meeting my customer’s needs before considering the profit.
I’m proud of how resilient I have been with my business. I am also a Radiography student and running a business alongside school has not been easy but I’m always ready to put in the work. So I am definitely proud of how far I have come.
I’m also excited about where my business will be in the next five years. The big picture makes me so happy and giggling.
I have achieved the things I have today because of self-discipline, resilient and consistency. I will not have gotten this far without them, so this has been very helpful.
Having amazing people around me also made me reach where I am faster. No man is an island and I could never have done it alone.
It has not been easy but the best way I overcame most of my challenges was by going down on my knees and talking to my creator. It worked every time.
I have learned that in order to achieve beautiful things you have to be ready to put in the work. There is no way you will do great things without working hard.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, we will definitely go to my best sharwama spot first which is Glazers Sharwama.
We would eat and drink good wine after which we will start the remaining part of the tour.
For the next one week of her being around, we will eat from The Tavern. It’s a beautiful restaurant that meets both our taste.
We will visit The Golf resort and The Immortal Gallery of Art.
It will be a lovely time reading in the Brooke street park because we both love books and nature.
On the final evening of her stay, I will take her out to April’s Celebration for a beautiful dinner night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I certainly love this part.
My mentor, Mr. Etimbuk Inyang deserved a shout-out.
When I started out, I was just busy trying it out and hoping it will work. He called me on day and did something that made me realize that there was more to what I was doing.
He had an unflinching faith in me till today and it has helped me repeatedly.
