We had the good fortune of connecting with Janice Daoud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janice, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been a very creative person, My art work was featured at the local art gallery when I was in elementary school at the age 10. At a very early age, I’d study my mom’s Vogue Magazine’s like they were the Bible. I loved the models, the fashion, the glam, and designers. I knew I wanted to be apart of it someday, never knew what part of it but I wanted to be involved and have my work in magazines like the one I studied.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I never knew I wanted to be a makeup artist but I’ve always been creative and artistic (I’m an Aquarius) What started as a hobby applying makeup on myself, become a passion and I knew I wanted to do it professionally so I taught myself how to. Early on in my career I worked for NARS Cosmetics as a Lead International Makeup Artist for 10 years and I got to work with some of the greats in the industry and learn from them backstage like my mentor James Kaliardos and Francois Nars, Diane Kendal, Kabuki, Val Garland, Lucia Peroni, and so many more. That’s where I learned so much about artistry, skill, and technique all backstage at New York, Paris, and London Fashion week. I’ve definitely had some challenges along the way but I believe that nothing worth having comes easy and I wouldn’t change anything that I have gone through to get here as it’s made me the strong person and artist I am today. My advice to any aspiring artist is find a mentor who’s work you admire and soak up all their knowledge, educate yourself on ALL SKIN TONES, Pick up books from the 20’s, 40’s 70’s ect and learn period makeup. Learn how to make mood boards, network and find a team to create photoshoots and most importantly believe in yourself. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor James Kaliardos deserves the biggest and loudest shout out there ever was. He’s an artist in so many categories, makeup just being one of them. He’s taught me so much in so many ways and I am lucky to have soaked up the creative knowledge that he’s thrown at me.
