We had the good fortune of connecting with Janice Luna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janice, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
As Jovana was browsing through Pinterest one day, she stumbled upon a brilliant idea – converting stock tanks into pools. This discovery came right at the beginning of Covid, and with an imminent lockdown approaching and the possibility of losing our jobs, we knew we needed to find a way to keep ourselves employed and entertained. Despite facing job losses, Jovana found the perfect solution without breaking the bank, opening up the opportunity for more people to create their own backyard oasis.
We offer a range of stock tanks, from painted to galvanized, heated to chilled. Our in-house team can even build benches around the tanks, and our DUOs combine the chic look of a galvanized pool with the durability of a poly pool. Together, we’ve successfully expanded our business from providing tanks solely in Southern California to offering our Tipsy Tanks nationwide.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are true innovators. We have ingeniously transformed simple water troughs meant for animals into sleek plunge pools. By carefully listening to the market’s needs, we have developed custom benches, pump covers, and steps. The most sought-after feature is paint customization. Our clients adore adding a vibrant touch to their backyards, and they particularly enjoy expressing their creativity by painting the stock tank pool. Whether it’s a solid color, stylish stripes, or a custom paint job with a unique theme, we’ve got it covered.
At Tipsy Tank Pools, we don’t just sell products; we offer carefully curated experiences tailored to fit our clients’ needs. We understand that everyone has different tastes, so we help you design your space in a way that you can enjoy for years to come.
The journey of building our business to where it is now involved late nights, laughter, tears, and everything in between. In the first year, it was just Jovana and me delivering and installing. We had to learn how to tow a trailer, navigate through tight streets, drill holes into the tank using power tools, and determine the best way to paint tanks and which type of paint works best for tanks. We tested products that worked and some that didn’t. We’ve curated a Tipsy Floats line that will be launching Spring of 2025. Although we faced many challenges and failures, we turned those failures into success by learning from them.
We are two sister in-laws who set out to offer families, couples, and individuals a stylish and affordable place to relax and cool off without worrying about the cost. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to own their own plunge pool, and our prices make that dream achievable.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our fave top spots we love! Absolutely have to visit Disneyland when you’re in SoCal – it’s the essential stop for the happiest place on earth. Who wouldn’t want to rock some adorable new Mickey ears, right? Echo Park is the perfect place to ride the Swan boats, especially in the summer when they light up. The Getty Museum is an ideal spot to immerse yourself in art while taking in breathtaking views. And of course, The Grove mall is the ultimate destination for some fantastic shopping. We would head over to Joshua Tree to take in the stunning night sky while relaxing in a Tipsy Tank Pool (we have a few out there).
For us food enthusiasts, don’t miss the 626 Night Market, Anaheim Packing District after a thrilling day at Disneyland, Howling Rays, Catch LA, and The Tiny Pony in Joshua Tree. You won’t want to miss out!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shoutout to our amazing husbands, David Luna (Janice’s husband) and Paul Johnson (Jovana’s husband), for always believing in us! Right from the start, they cheered us on, no matter how wild our ideas were. They built wooden pieces to fit on a trailer so we can tow tanks safely, managed our books, built us safe storage, tagged along for deliveries, and managed the household while we are gone for hours or days on end. We can’t thank them enough for allowing us to thrive as wives, moms, and entrepreneurs. We are grateful for their unwavering support!
