We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarid Blue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarid, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Friendship, kind humans, love, accomplishing goals, tidy/organized spaces, animals, live music, going to museums, and playing in the water. Because, why not? I feel like I don’t get to decide what I like. I am just actively seeking out things that bring enjoyment.

“Light Baths” is an ongoing photography and installation series intended to illuminate the universal beauty of humankind. This multidisciplinary practice seeks to empower the subject through creating a safe space for individuals to discover freedom and acceptance from societal expectations. The series is an exploration into new forms of portraiture encapsulating the subject’s experience through the use of projected light. Where traditional photography exposes the subject, burdened by light, “Light Baths” shroud the subject offering them the ability to reveal themselves at their own pace. Through the creation of my own custom graphic designs and digital patterns, alongside the use of scenic and textural photography, the model’s skin turns into an interactive canvas as they are “bathed” in the lights of the projected imagery. The production of the work becomes a collaborative experience between myself as the artist and my subject, allowing each individual to explore their inner emotions and their physical body, conjuring a new sense of strength. The “Light Baths” drape over the subject becoming a form of armor. The visual obscurity of the projections relieves them of personal stigmas of shame, fear, or insecurity allowing them to find an increased willingness to engage with the process of expressing their own unfettered selves. My goal is to provide encounters that inspire strength and freedom for my subjects, whether it be a cathartic and healing transformation or merely a playful and joyful experience as they revel in the beauty of their own body. The camera captures these uninhibited moments and as I document these uplifting and transcendent scenes, I strive to reveal that the confidence each subject experienced was part of them all along. In doing so that they may continue to embody this in their lives beyond our session; each photograph serving as a relic of an emboldened individual inspiring all those who view the piece. “Light Baths” opens a rare window into the relationship between our consciousness and the bodies we inhabit. From conceptualization, through production, to the final imagery, the “Light Baths” shift both the mindset of participant and viewer; an empowering reminder that everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their own skin.
