We had the good fortune of connecting with Ja’shaun Rowden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ja’shaun, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Rohnert Park, a small city in Northern California. I moved around a lot when I was younger but always stayed present in my hometown. My dad was a familiar face around the city back in the 90’s through the early 2000’s so a lot of his impact fell on me young, so from the jump I was already thrown into the deep end of a harsh reality of survival. He was who I got my stage name from. Through all my trials and tribulations I found a new path of existence and learned a way to view situations and life different then my peers. Whenever I saw something I wanted to do it bigger and better, bring a new element to the table, locally it always brought attention to me because no matter how drastic or different my actions were, it was unlike no other. I ran with that my whole life, always studying and calculating my next move and people’s moves around me. I had no choice but to always stay focused because I’m always being watched on what I’ll do next. My music now brings a new element with attention grasping uncertainty. Always being on the move 24/7.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art is one of a kind to all of who views it. To the artist themselves, there’s always more to be done. What separates me from another artists is my consistency and dedication to the industry and the concept of bringing my soul and energy on a bigger platform. I have a lot to say and due to my nature of go big or go home, I have the firm belief it will reach farther than just my mind. This has always been my dream, watching my lyrics reach an instrumental then watch it reach a place for all to hear my raw energy, it’s addicting. Being able to reach a stage for people to see me distribute what I have to offer became the only thing I truly fell in love with. Helping families and individuals in need, seeing the smiles on kids faces brought a new light that I never thought I’d see showed me true love and prosperity. That’s what makes me different, what I do has never been for the benefit or luxury of me, I do it for the kids and the people who want to be on a bigger level or want to see themselves do better for themselves and community. To learn what that meant, I spent a lot of time alone, to this day it’s the same. It’s very lonely when you’re the only one in the room that is reading the character of who you’re in the room with, so constantly my mind runs. I had to realize that’s what truly makes me different was the fact I was alone in the process and people watch the product of my ability and don’t see the steps it took for me to create that product. It all runs through my mind until I put it into my music, I’ll never be afraid to call out the vulnerability and reality of the world. I’ll never be afraid to call out my own vulnerability. To anyone that knows they’re position no matter the occurrence, you can never be afraid of the fire you need to step through to reach paradise.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Rohnert Park itself, depending on what you’ve seen, there’s not much to venture into. A good place to eat, I will go to Hunan Kitchen. In Santa Rosa, I love Paradise Sushi & Hibachi & Jalapeño. Going to the Santa Rosa Plaza leaves you tons of places to eat and hangout, with a variety of stores and restaurants. If rollerblading is something you can do or want to try we have CalSkate, for recreation we have Scandia. Epicenter in Santa Rosa is one of my favorite places, having virtual reality rooms, bowling, bars, arcade, laser tag, etc. Where you’ll find me most is the multiple studios in my area, due to my high work schedule. Always can give a salute to Gigi at By Any Means and Jay Perry at NSPR Engineering.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ll always want to thank my team for keeping me focused on my goals and trying new things artistically. If it wasn’t for my city and community I wouldn’t have gone any farther than just being Ja’shaun. Thank you to my mom and dad, my older sisters and little brothers for continuing to boost me into a bigger level of confidence. And of course, I want to thank my beautiful daughter and her amazing mother for finally bringing me away from a bad path and always remembering to never settle for less. Harmony, you’re my number 1
