We had the good fortune of connecting with Reagan Link and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reagan, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
If you were to ask me this question a few years ago, I would have a completely different answer than the one I’m going to give you now. I used to live my life in 2x speed, constantly hustling and rushing to try and do the next best thing. While this did really help me excel in my career and get to where I am today, it also caused me to put an unnecessary amount pressure on myself. I became a totally workaholic because of this hustle mentality. While my career thrived, other parts of my life suffered. My entire life was doing hair… and what was once my passion became something I began to dread.

When there is nothing else that exists in your life other than your job, it takes the fun out of everything you were once passionate about. Within the last year, I have began to give myself a lot more time off than ever before. I took a real vacation for the first time since I was 16. I’ve prioritized seeing family, showing up for important events, working out, traveling, and taking time off when I need to, even if it means saying no to a job. Taking this time off to see my family and begin to travel the world had sparked so much more inspiration than I ever could have imagined. Every time I come back to work after a trip I feel so rejuvenated and motivated to create.

I’ve learned that without legitimate rest and recovery, it is impossible to show up as the best version of yourself. If you an artist or an entrepreneur and you are suffering from burnout.. please allow yourself the time you need to recharge. You shouldn’t feel guilty for taking a break if you need it. If you don’t give your body and mind time it needs to heal, you are not going to be able to become the best version of yourself. Your career won’t be over because you took a week off.. your mental and physical health should ALWAYS come first. Hustling might get you to the next level a little faster in your career, but having balance in your life is the key to long term success in all aspects of your life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love creating art and hair is my favorite medium. My career has had many ups and downs but what has kept me going has been my passion for the job. Something I hope people can take from my brand is inspiration for their own art. That has always been my goal as a creative, to inspire the next generation to find their creative passion and do what they love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
On a typical day if I had a friend in town, we would probably start the day with a hike at Fryman on Laurel Canyon. Afterwards, we’d refuel with a healthy brunch at one of my favorite smoothie spots on Ventura Blvd, WhataPeach! After that, we would probably shop around ventura blvd, maybe make a quick stop at Erewhon and finish the night with sushi at sugarfish! If it’s gonna be a late night, we might also grab some ice cream from salt and straw and drive up to Mulholland Dr. to see the city lights at night!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I want to shoutout! Of course all of the people who have allowed me to do their hair deserve major recognition! Also want to give a shoutout to one of my mentors, Ruslan, who really showed me the way in the freelance world and gave me the opportunities I needed to get to the next level. You can follow him on IG @hairbyruslan ! Lastly, I’ve recently started working with Mane Addicts. I’m super grateful for all the opportunities they have already given me. The team I have worked so hard for me and truly have my best interest in mind which is super important to me and I’m so grateful! I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
