We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Burrescia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
A few months before the Pandenmic, I was working at the hospital as a nurse in transplant & heptabilliary services. Unfortunately, the hospital I worked for was permanently closed so I decided to take advantage and continue forth with school. It was during this time that my business was officially born . I love to create so I began to make products for myself & parents to help with their ailments. Eventually I started to branch out and so it was.
As a nurse , I have the advantage of choosing between a wide array of nursing specialities. The category that I am interested in is classified as “Holistic Nursing “. To clarify “ holistic nursing involves an individuals person’s physical body as well as the patient’s emotional, mental, social and spiritual well-being”. I believe that everything is encompassed. Furthermore , I believe in the incorporation of herbal remedies and herbs such as the cannabis plant.
I have a deep compassion and am a huge advocate for the plant and all its hundreds of uses . Hence, I am a nurse who is also certified as a “cannabis nurse” meaning I can legally teach and advise individuals via consultations and more ! Proper knowledge and education is necessary because many individuals are unaware , misguided or misinformed. Ultimately, my goal is also to bridge the gap between the medical and cannabis world.
Therefore, the thought process for my business has been to help change the negative stigma of the cannabis plant . In addition, my goal has always been to help others and my community by crafting herbal products that can help them cut back or reduce the amount of any harmful or toxic ingredients in their day to day life. Furthermore, I have found that humans are consuming an over abundance of medications especially pain medications , which can eventually lead to liver and stomach issues . Thus, herbal products infused with the cannabis plant, allow for individuals to choose from more natural and less harmful methods to alleviate their body ailments. These products can arrange from topical sprays , bath bombs , salves and oils. I myself suffer from hormone and fertility related issues which heightens the necessity of a more holistic and natural life style.
Many are unaware that this business has been sitting tucked away in my heart. It was spoken into fruition for many years. Collectively , Many moments in my life finally allowed for me to begin.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was 17 years old, I decided to join the United Stated Army. At the time, I thought I would make a career out of it but that quickly changed . While I was still enlisted, I was accepted to nursing school . It was then , then I stepped into the nursing world. It has been far from easy but nothing in me would ever go back and change it. I find the body and the world of medicine albeit far from perfect to be extremely fascinating .
Initially, I started off working at the free clinic. Then, I landed my first hospital job in Kidney Transplant Services as a Nurse and Phlebotomist.
Currently, I am working as an “Outpatient Clinic Nurse “. I work for two surgeons , who primarily operate on patients with hepatobiliary and pancreatic disorders . To Clarify , the “ hepatobiliary system “ involves the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts.
In addition , I am operating my small business, CSLBODYCARE and working on my services as a “Cannabis Nurse Consultant”.
I am so proud of my products and that I get to bridge the gap between both worlds .
I have learned that for this business to succeed that I must always remember my “why”. I am learning the rules and how to navigate between all the nuances of the small business world . I have learned that obtaining education and practice must always be ongoing .
I want the world to know that I literally put in 1000% into all I have ever done . I want them to believe in the power of the cannabis plant but I also encourage everyone to always do their own research. A part of my mission statement is to also always help my community . This may include volunteering of my nursing services and or donation of my products/ herbal items . This also includes providing my community and individuals with as much education as I can .
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The City of Angels is fascinating because you can go from the beach to the mountains all in one day . The city is huge yet there are so many different “microcities”that people have never even heard of . When I have visitors I always take them to a small diner called “Nick’s”. I love the breakfast and coffee. Next, I would drive up Pacific Coast Highway and take them to a variety of different beaches such as Venice, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. For Lunch, I would take them to my favorite Peruvian Restaurant called “El Polla Inca “. If you haven’t tried Peruvian cuisine then you are missing out. It is a mixture of Italian , Japanese & Indigenous heritage. After enjoying such a great feast we would head towards home to rest and get ready for the night activity. If it was a Wednesday I would take my guest to “Dub Club “ which is a traveling venue that consists of reggae, dance hall and dub. It has existed for about 20 years ! If my guests arrived during the weekend I would take them to one of my favorite tequila bars called “ Las Perlas”. The bartenders, vibes and music are excellent . A few other places would be “Johnnys Bar” (Highland Park), “Nativo” (Highland Park” and “Casita de Campo” ( Hyperion Ave)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a child, I grew up around the block from my Aunt who had a business baking cakes. She would be considered a “Jane of All Trades” . She has so many talents which range from baking, canning, gardening, quilt making and sewing , The list can go on!. My cousins and I were so blessed because she would often make us clothes. I am blessed to say that I spent a lot of my childhood with her . From a very young age , I was in such fascination at how much this individual was capable of. She is also a wife and the mother of 3 children . I have always been inspired by the fact that she never gave up on her dreams and talents. In fact, when I was a child I had a lemonade stand every summer. You can say that her and her children planted the “entrepreneurial seeds” .
In addition, I come from two very hard -working , selfless, loving parents. They have so many talents but due to life and constant work they were unable to do what they really wanted to do. They traveled and went on vacations but they didn’t have the time to feed their inner child . I am proud to say that in current times, that has changed.
They now have the time to sew , bake, garden. My dad makes his own pineapple cider vinegar grown with homemade pineapples. In fact, prior to the pandemic, him and a few family members won the LA COUNTY FAIR COOK OFF x 5 YEARS in a row. . I am proud to say that some of the herbs utilized in my products are special because they come from my parents/family members .They deserve all the credit and recognition for believing in me all my life. I am blessed to have their support and literal help . They have helped me at so many of my events and are always informing people of my products.
I would also like to thank all the business owners that have given me &others an opportunity
