We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Magdaleno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Garden Grove, CA. My parents came to the U.S. when they were teenagers in the 70s & 80s. Once they married, my mothers parents took care of myself, my sister and many other cousins. I have a huge family. Growing up, my parents both had small businesses and I think that subconsciously was in the back of my mind. I knew I wanted to be my own boss one day. My grandma instilled faith in me since I was very little. She always said with God, anything was possible. My grandpa was a very hardworking and creative carpenter. He was not only artistic but he always reminded me that there were rewards when you worked hard and pursued your dreams. He didn’t believe in sitting back and not taking action. Coming from a Hispanic background, being lazy wasn’t an option. You had to work for what you wanted in life, never settle and never give up. My family imprinted that belief that I could do anything I set my mind on. They all came to the states, became citizens and planted the seeds for us to have a better life. To have the “American dream”. Being first generation American, I felt called to prove to myself that I could achieve anything regardless of where my parents came from. I am proud of my family history. If it wasn’t for them coming to the U.S. , I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t have had the opportunities I’ve had thus far since starting my skincare business in 2021 after becoming licensed in 2012. They say your environment shapes who are as you grow up and that you are what you believe. I knew I was capable and I went for it. The impact my parents and grandparents had on me from a very young age will never be taken for granted. They instilled in me the qualities I needed to be successful. I am forever grateful to have had their support, wisdom and love to push me to want more for myself and my life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician of 10 years. I offer a variety of skincare services at my suite for Age management, acne treatments and relaxation. After becoming licensed in 2012, I worked for many other companies at spas and clinics then leading up to me officially renting a space in Huntington Beach in late April, 2021 and starting my business “Esthetics By Jasmine”. I saved up money not really having a solid plan or clientele going into it. Just a prayer, vision and great support system. Investing in myself was the greatest decision. My business has been so great and has grown so much since opening. I learn something new everyday. It’s already been one year going on two next year end of April. I absolutely love being able to help my clients achieve their best skin and walk out feeling confident. What sets me apart from others I’d like to say is my energy. The reason I say this is, there are so many estheticians now as this industry is growing by the second. You ever go somewhere but never go back because of a bad vibe and how someone was servicing you ? That’s exactly it. People can receive services anywhere but they will always gravitate back to you because of their experience as a whole, your work ethic and how you made them feel. Everyone that has came to me new or returning have always complimented how they love my vibe and feel my kind energy. I am always very thorough with each service. They feel seen, heard, and they walk out glowing ! People can copy your techniques but they can never duplicate your energy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooh this one’s tough. One place I will always suggest is my “secret spot”. Although it’s no secret anymore lol Heisler park in Laguna beach ! Laguna has the best sunsets in my opinion. Have a little wine with pizza or snacks picnic, listen to the ocean waves and watch the sunset or bring a mini speaker too..perfect! Another cool spot to hang out in OC is Old Towne Orange. They have so many good places to eat and cool antique shops. Go to Gabbi’s Mexican kitchen for authentic Mexican food and yummy margaritas. Some other places to eat I enjoy are; Javiers in Newport, the 5th in Anaheim, Tempo urban kitchen in Brea, in n out (no brainer) and shake shack for burgers. Some great aesthetic outdoor places to check out are The mission in San Juan Capistrano or the self realization lake shrine in LA. If you’re more into just lounging you could always do breweries. Golden road in Anaheim is a cool spot and so is the Anaheim packing district . There are so many more I could list but these are probably my top choices.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, shoutout to my small close circle of supportive people. I have an amazing support system always rooting for me from my family, siblings, parents, my amazing supportive boyfriend, his mom (for helping me redecorate my dream suite recently), acquaintances and even strangers who send sweet messages that I inspire them and other helpful, kind estheticians on social media who share their knowledge and support me too. Shoutout also to my amazing loyal clients for supporting my business in any way they can because it wouldn’t be what it is today without them. I truly am appreciative of them. And a big shoutout to everyone who’s pursuing their dreams, running a small business on their own, and putting in the work, blood, sweat and tears. That is something to be proud of. Keep going because I see y’all !
