Meet Jason Brown | Owner & Founder of Game OVA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I took the idea of starting my own business seriously at the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, when all we had was time at home to think and reflect. I figured that since I had so much time to spare, I might as well create something out of it. The idea had been a seed in my mind for a year prior, and the pandemic was the opportunity for it to sprout. I also realized that the pandemic would, in a way, level the playing field in the economy since everything was in a state of pause, making it just a bit easier to launch a business. I knew that by the end of the pandemic, there would be a new generation of leaders and companies that embrace the coming change, and I knew that I had to be apart of it.
In designing the business model, I wanted the foundation to be around serving others within the sports community – two things that I have a deep passion for. I knew that the foundation had to be something I was passionate about for it to really blossom in the ways I wanted it to. I thought about the unique skill I had and how I can leverage it. I spent weeks brainstorming on ways that I can help people in the sports community with the skills I possessed. This is still an ongoing question for me, but what I have come up with so far is a personalized system that helps athletes analyze and utilize their performance data to reach their fullest athletic potential. I wanted my company to be something different from what any athlete has ever experienced, something that would revolutionize sports and technology as we know it. I knew that it was two things I would need in the process, purpose and faith, and with those two I have been working on Game OVA ever since.
What should our readers know about your business?
My company, Game OVA, is a family of visionaries who share the love for sports analytics, and use it to help coaches and athletes realize their competitive advantages. Our mission is to revolutionize how coaches and athletes analyze and utilize their performance data, with the vision of a sports world using data analysis methods influenced by Game OVA. Our personalized analysis services are offered to teams and athletes mainly at the high school level, where we realized the need for support in data management. Though there are companies who help teams to collect their data, we found that there are none who truly use the powers of data analysis to help teams and athletes reach new heights.
I am proud to serve those in a community I feel a special connection to, and express myself through my passion. With that, I am also very proud to deliver opportunities to individuals who share that same passion that I do, uplifting others as I climb. Business-wise, I would say I’ve gotten to where I am at by truly wanting to help people. Keeping this in my heart, I have been able to perform at a high-level when opportunities presented themselves. The journey has been everything but easy, it has demanded growth from me both personally and professionally, but I would not want it any other way. It took a heap of faith and consistency to overcome the obstacles in my way. What I have from them is that during those tough times, it is important to remember why you even started in the first place. There will be good days, and not-so-good days, but every single day you must show up, because there is power in consistency. I constantly remind myself, ‘Rome was not built in a day’. This helps me remember to enjoy the process as I build the company, and that in the end I will have my Rome if I just keep working.
The one thing that I want the world to know about my brand is that we are here to revolutionize sports analytics by giving the power back to the players. Looking back on my playing career, I got cut from my high school team because I did not know how to leverage my strengths. I truly believe that if I had the type of service that Game OVA offers, I would have made that team – and that is my why. I want to help all players maximize their athletic potential so that no one gets cut short like I did.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being from the Bay, the first place I would take them is to Oakland, where I feel there is the most Bay Area culture. I would take them to my favorite breakfast spot in Oakland – Sequoia diner. From there, we would explore Lake Merritt and possibly take a gondola around the lake. I’ve found that the people in the East Bay give off a true Bay Area native vibe, and that is where I would want to start. The next days, I would take them out to San Francisco where we would visit the Embarcadero, Pier 39, and Golden Gate Park. San Francisco is such a sight to see, it would take us a couple of days to explore. Another day, I would take them to Half Moon Bay to enjoy a day at the beach on the beautiful California coast. This is a personal favorite for me as we grew up visiting here, indulging on the famously known clam chowder and pumpkin pie it has to offer. There is a lot to see in the Bay Area, and it is difficult to name just a few!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my successes to the non-profit organization, TEAM Inc., who helped me discover my passion for sports analytics and have mentored me in my journey through the sports world. I found TEAM Inc. at my lowest – a junior in high school when I had just stopped playing basketball at a competitive level. Having been an athlete all my life, I was very unsure of my next step, but TEAM showed me that I can still be involved with the sport I love in my own unique way. I began to encounter opportunities to prove my worth which ultimately increased my self-confidence, something I had struggled with. Without TEAM, there would be no Game OVA, and I am forever grateful for the skills and opportunities they have presented me with.
