Meet Jason “Propaganda” Petty | Artist, Author, Party host, host of Hood Politics with Prop Podcast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason “Propaganda” Petty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason “Propaganda”, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am I child of the Eastside. Born in South Central on the borderlands between the Black and Mexican communities, then shortly moved Twenty minutes east to SGV. Specifically Valinda/West Covina. Growing up in such a diverse community; west covina and Valinda being known for a Vibrant Mexican and Pilipino, population, really made me the cultural translator and ambassador I am today. While i never NOT loved my heritage, my father was an Los Angeles Black Panther, I felt a deep solidarity with the broader LA community

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like my music and poetry divergence and connection.
Spending spent most of my childhood in a predominant Latino neighborhood of the Eastside of south central, then moving 20 minutes east to Valinda/west covina There was a sense of multiculturalism from the very beginning. my pos dad was a Black Panther, which also inspired the my passion for justice and solidarity
I went to school for illustration and intercultural studies. I taught high
school for six years and had a hand in building the School of Arts and Enterprise in Pomona CA.
I aslo serve on the board of of directors of Search for Common Ground, an international humanitarian
organization working to foster peace in the most hostile of conflict region.
I also have a podcast “Hood Politics with Prop,” is featured on the Iheart Radio Network. I try to educate by giving palatable break downs news, economic and
politics in a way that empowers innercity people of color who my feel they are not smart enough to
understand politics.
lastly, Im a bona-fide coffee nerd. i started a Terraform cold brew coffee
All those things….are really hard to manage. I struggle the same things every artist does such as doubting my self worth of finding the financial freedom to do it all. Ive learned mostly that at the end of the day, you cant make the phone ring or the emails come. in other words, you cant control the outcome. you just have to pursue excellence and be ready when the opportunity comes calling

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
