We had the good fortune of connecting with Javier Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Javier, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
You have to be willing to take risks. There’s opportunities that come by, and you have to be ready to take the risk and jump on it. These opportunities don’t come back so one doesn’t have to fear the risks, simply be ready and when your time comes you will know how to handle it. When the chance came up to buy our restaurant there was some concerns, seeing as we had more experience in the food truck business. We believed in ourselves, our products and our brand that we decided to give it a try.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart from others is our care for food. We have a high standard for food quality and taste, and we do not like to put something in someone’s plate that we wouldn’t eat ourselves. We love to perfect our recipes and think of our food as one of a kind. Our business has thrived because our customer service and our authentic flavors. Customers return because they have a familiarity with our staff and they expect their food to be as good as always. Throughout the years we have learned that there is no such thing as competition. You are your own competition and if you can’t be better than yourself, better than you were yesterday at your craft, that’s when other businesses over take your clientele. We want the world to know that we now have a restaurant and more space to innovate with our food and the best is yet to come. Mini Birrieria is more than just birria.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d like to say when it comes to food id take our friend to our restaurant. mini Birrieria served the best birria, delicious menudo, crispy carnitas and you can get a beer along with that. Once that’s ate and drank, to hangout it would be great to go to Downtown Longbeach for some drinks and views.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The other person in this story is my wife, Jazmin. She is my partner in life and in business. We’ve taken risks together and have brought our business to where it is by being a team. With our Jazmin, our business would not be where it is today.
