We had the good fortune of connecting with Jax Cat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jax, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The driving force behind Colors of Spirituality is to create a safe space for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color) & LGBTQIA + entrepreneurs in the city of DownTown Los Angeles. I wanted to bring healing to the neighborhood I’ve been part of all my life. I believe it is especially crucial, at a time like this, for marginalized groups to come together and create a thriving community. Its is essential for their work to be seen, their creativity to be felt, their message to be heard and their own cultural ways of healing to be shared with the world.

We are able to provide support, healing, mentorship, resources and most importantly a space to feel vulnerable. By cultivating this kind of community, Colors of Spirituality can play a pivotal role in promoting healing, empowerment, and collaboration among diverse entrepreneurs. It’s a meaningful way to honor and uplift voices that have often been silenced.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that everyone embodies a unique form of medicine, shaped by their experiences and perspectives—each person brings their own special kind of magic. My focus is on love magic, particularly the art of self-love. JupiterssMoons Botanica & Apothecary emerged from my deep desire to create something greater than myself: a space, a concept, an energy that resonates through my products, creations, readings, and healings.

The journey I undertook to reach my current professional position was far from easy. I spent eight years working for a third-party administrator, enduring the challenges of working during quarantine, and finally mustered the courage to leave my comfort zone in pursuit of what truly brings me joy. While this was a coveted job that many aspired to, I know my departure disappointed many, and that was one of the hardest aspects of my decision. It was during this time that I began to decolonize my life—reevaluating my routines and the beliefs I had internalized. They call it a “dream” because it’s something they can’t envision achieving for themselves, but for me, it isn’t a dream; it’s the life I desire, the business I lead, and the reality I have chosen.

I founded Colors of Spirituality, an Esoteric Exchange, after noticing a significant underrepresentation of BIPOC entrepreneurs at pop-up events and spiritual/metaphysical markets. My goal is to serve as a beacon of support for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs seeking a platform to showcase their work and share their healing gifts.
JupiterssMoons Botanica & Apothecary is a reflection of my passion and magic—an endeavor I’ve devoted myself to in order to enrich my community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Having grown up in Boyle Heights, the first city east of Downtown LA, my ideal weekend always starts with a visit to Cinco Puntos on Lorena and Cesar Chavez for some mouthwatering carne de res tacos—an absolute must! In the afternoon, we’d head over to Colors of Spirituality (@colors.ofspirituality on Instagram) for a delightful healing session with a tarot reader or perhaps an astrology reading to prepare for the upcoming retrograde (ughh I know, right?). This market offers a wonderful opportunity to explore and learn about various healing modalities.
To wrap up the evening, we would indulge in some delicious pizza at Pizzanista, where their vegan ranch is truly unmatched! If we still have some energy after dinner, I’d love to take us to Angel City Brewery for a friendly game of Connect 4—where I’m confident I’ll win!

I’m very passionate about supporting and putting money back to my community because I believe we are stronger when we support one another!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If I can pinpoint the main source of inspiration it would have to be my Grandfather, the man who raised me as his own child. Since a young age, Manuel was always a beacon of safety, where I was able to discover child like curiosity again, themes of other worldly conversations was how we passed time. He was a Gemini Sun, and I, a Gemini Rising and Venus…. we just made sense together, after all, it was just him and I together most of my life. When I began my spiritual journey in high school, he and I would meditate together, share stores on books we were reading and towards the final half of his life he believed in Buddhism. Manuel most definitely paved the way for spirituality to be my life work, my way of being. my way of living.
