We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Horn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
That i am a one man show. I write all of my content, direct, edit, shoot, cast, score, and produce. On top of all of that, i have to act in many of my productions. An i fund all my projects out of pocket.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self taught, independent filmmaker. When i got into film, i had no idea all of the things that needed to be done before you can make a film. I just knew what i wanted to see on the screen. That set me apart from other filmmakers, in my opinion, because i could direct a story without writing it down on a script. Later i found out that this is working backwards, but better late than never. It was very hard to master the process of putting together a project and making it come to life. After many hours of no sleep and continuing education to make sure i wasn’t missing anything, i finally started to do it correctly. I have been in filmmaking for a little over two years and i relocated to LA to fulfil my dream of being on the big screen. I go premiered in my first film festival in August 2019 at “Indie Night” Film Festival at the Hollywood Chinese Theater. After finally achieving that goal in my short film career, i set out to do it on a larger stage. My YouTube Channel “JAY HORN FILMS”, now has over 30 million views and counting. I still have so much more work to do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well there is not much that can be done in this Covid-19 atmosphere, so i will say we will spend plenty of time at home watching Netflix and ordering wings from wingstop. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my wife. She has been the backbone that allows me to be great. She is a mother and a small business owner herself.
