We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaye Ew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaye, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
There’s not a single day that goes by that I don’t think of the numerous risk I’ve taken to get to where I am today. The first of many risk to follow, was leaving my cooperate background in order to start my business professionally. This was a huge risk as I had no industry relationships, contacts, or even a portfolio prior to making such a decision. I choose to leave a perfectly well paying job (stability) to embark upon an amazing entrepreneurial journey not knowing where it would lead me. As I began developing a portfolio, my business began to gain more traction in Las Vegas. Soon enough that traction would lead me to working in LA and commuting pretty often. That brings me to probably my biggest risk up to date; uprooting my business from Las Vegas, and moving to Los Angeles permanently. Relocating to LA (in the middle of a national pandemic), risk taking has truly ran synonymous with my business development. No risk, no reward! I often tell my peers, to reach the level of success I’m aspiring towards, you have to find a comfort in being uncomfortable. Where your headed isn’t somewhere you’ve been and it may feel very different from what you’ve known. I have sacrificed my comfort and quite a bit of life’s luxuries to devote 1000% into my business and I wouldn’t change not one decision I’ve made!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dressed by Jaye is unlike any other wardrobe stylist in the regard of I am most inspired by the client and road mapping what style looks like together. I do not put clients into a preset mold, however we create that mold from scratch and it’s personally created just for you! I use shape & the body as a spring board to what styles are most flattering, and highlights a clients best feature. Anyone can wear anything, but how is the tricky part! I marry my knowledge with my eye to achieve an elevated sense of personal style that’s sure to captivate attention in any setting. A lot of clients not only enjoy their final looks, but they love the way DBJ makes them feel. I chose to establish my business under a name formerly only used by family and friends, “Jaye”. For me it’s more than business, it’s personal! I am my clients biggest cheerleader, and I never miss an opportunity to remind them how remarkable they truly are! Has it been easy getting here? Heavens No! I continue to face many adversities and challenges as I continue growing and risk taking. I understand wholeheartedly, “To whom much is given, much is required.” This scripture is the light in my path that fuels my perseverance. I interpret that message to mean in order for me to obtain my hearts desire, I have work and endure just as much if not more as that initial desire. I truly believe what’s meant to be cannot be changed, and although things go bad; it can be for a good reason. Innately I’m a die-hard optimist and I attribute that to allowing me to overcome defeat and/or fear of failure.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m pretty new to LA—still so much to explore, but I have a few favorite spots I can’t stay away from. You will always bump into me at The Grove or Beverly Center for all my retail therapy. Fun for me is calorie consumption. I’m often somewhere between the two locations where there are vast amounts of delicious restaurants neighboring one another. When time permits and I can be alone, I love being still! You’ll find me on a trail, or the beach looking out at nature and reflecting on all gods marvelous blessings!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, Thee biggest shoutout to Brittany Diego & Fashion Mentor! I attended her stylist seminar back in March of 2019. She taught me in that workshop the principals of cultivating a professional & profitable business with my style talents. I’ve always had a flair & specific taste, but she gave me the business savvy and tools to really get things off to an amazing start! If your reading, THANK YOU SO MUCH BRITTANY!! I’m also nothing without a team; so to every model, photographer, and makeup artist who has worked with me (so many to name individually) from the beginning to now…I truly could not have done it without you all!! A lot of the professionals I align myself with are more tendered & established in the industry. It’s a very humbling feeling when some of the most well respected talent in the industry has become your peers and colleagues, and I’m utterly & completely grateful for each and everyone of those relationships!
