Meet Jaywall | Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaywall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaywall, how do you think about risk?
I’ve been a risk taker my whole life. When I started my music career it was one of the biggest risk I ever took. At 19, I was so determined to excel with my music, I was blinded by the amount of risk I had to take. Growing up in a Caribbean household, my parents pushed for all my siblings to get a education so when I decided not to go college, it wasn’t the most fashionable in their eyes. I knew from that point on I was going against the grain. As time progressed and I also realized how costly it is to get your music marketed right in the music industry. At a point in time I was financially unstable because I would put every last dollar into music equipment, videos, and promotion. All while the people around you are telling you you’re headed down the wrong path.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started making music when I was 19 and I had no idea where I wanted to take things at first. I knew upfront that if I wanted to be a artist and a master of the craft, I couldn’t afford to be in the studio as much as I wanted to, so had to buy recording equipment. With just my computer, a microphone, and a bluetooth speaker I taught myself through YouTube how to engineer a song. At first, it wasn’t Billie Eilish quality but I knew I was getting better very fast. I started to release music through SoundCloud to gain feedback on the songs I was making. A year goes by and things started to take a turn after I released my track “Him” that now has over 32 million streams worldwide. When the record started to breakthrough, it hit top 50 songs on SoundCloud worldwide which casted a light over my catalog that caught the attention of labels and executives. I knew from that point that I had to start marketing my music and myself not only as the artist but as a brand. I then got a manager and built a team to provide me with structure and consultation. I also invested into a videographer. Those vital people helped blaze the trail to my path where Im standing today. Was it easy? Not even a little and it still isn’t easy but if I had a piece of advice I would give to a upcoming artist. It would be to never take things personal and only you are responsible for your dream’s.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them down south to Miami for a night on Wynwood for sure or catch vibes in Brickell

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be able to get it done without the help of my team. It started with my two best friends that then grew into management, a assistant, and videographer. They make sure that all bases get covered when it comes to the music and capitalize on all opportunities that come my way.
