We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayza Duhon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jayza, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I feel like I didn’t choose to be creative or even pursue the career of becoming a vocalist and songwriter. I believe it was more of a calling, music is a universal language it brings people from different walks of life together and I was born to speak that language into people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m classically trained I think R&B jazz country neo soul anything I can get my hands on I believe my versatility sets me apart from others. so excited for the future also I just released a single “take the L” by Jayza this past February 14. i’m still I got to where I am professionally today bye taking risk and not listening to naysayers but I am constantly growing and expanding and learning to be where I wanna be in let’s say 10 years. It was not easy and it’s always going to be a constant and sometimes you can be your worst critic

Honestly The way to overcome it is to constantly reassure yourself if one person doesn’t like your music there are 10 people who will.
The lessons I’ve learned and are still learning it’s to go for gold and keep going and not letting that inner voice be too loud also if one door closes another one will open
I want to know to know that I am Authentic raw and unapologetically bold.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Flight Path on Tuesday nights to watch the local artist showcase. I would take them to local Art Gallery and inclusive spaces such as made space Seattle also take them to scenic areas like West Seattle or the pier or gasworks park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father is my strength day by day just knowing how courageous and loving he was. He pushed me to keep going with my music he told”keep going and sing my ass off”. That drives me if I can make the people feel something deeper than the words, then I’m doing my purpose.

My mother for always allowing me to mirror her resilience and confidence
And being my major support and backbone throughout my life.
