We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaz Cotharn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaz, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Visionary Apparel Brand’s mission is to connect and inspire individuals throughout the world, by achieving success and creating the future with their vision through dedication. Visionary is here to provide high quality, comfortable, fashionable, yet trendy styles for like-mind people of all ages. With the creativity and versatility of Visionary, our designs can connect to the world from one and another. This brand’s purpose is to motivate and inspire the community especially socially, because at the end of the day we are all people with dreams and goals, as a reminder to know you’re not alone, anything and everything is possible if you put your mind to it and work at it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I feel like I always had a thing for art, I was able to draw since a kid, I did photography, and graphic design . My problem was I felt like I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to be I was confused, because I knew I had a few different talents/interests such as wanting to be a DJ, I love to play on a small turntable mixing and scratching for fun. Another was that I grew up playing basketball up to high school, not sure if I wanted to be athlete or not, but I had some skill. However, I always like to dress cool and nice. I was highly interested in new sneakers, jewelry and clothes. Never knew I would be so interested in fashion and being a designer/creator now to this day. About 3 years ago, I’ve became a barber and achieved my license. As I worked hard and put in a lot of time to learn I realized how my art can apply to this career by creating videos and content, I was able to grow my barber status fast as well as connecting to a lot of different and talented clients. Connecting with my clients and networking with other creatives made me realize that we all face challenges and hardships, we all have dreams and goals, and some of us may have a vision of what they want their life to look like and some may not know just yet, some day they will. I 2019-2020 during the pandemic I established my clothing brand, I feel like during the pandemic was reawakening for all of us and made us think about our future, for me it was a blessing in disguise because I knew I had a chance to make a difference. I just want the world to know that my brand represents all of us, from past challenges, the present, and for our future goals, that anything is possible! When you have a vision or a dream, you have to grab it and never let go. I’ve been learning that how we speak about ourselves is living proof and people began to become successful the minute they decide to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I believe that I am a real eventful person so I would take friends to a few pop up vendor/food events one of my favorite events I like as well as showcased my own brand is this monthly event called (BLACK ON THE BLOCK), really fun experience for everyone. Being in LA, my favorite thing to do is to try new restaurants/bars with a dope astetic or nice rooftop view, a few spots I like is Perch, Tao, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, and many more. Being from Chicago, I always take my friends to Harolds Chicken Shack on Hollywood Blvd, to introduce them to popular Chicago food that I love. However, I like to be out and about, beaches, restaurants, museum, art galleries, flea markets, food events, and etc anything fun and new basically .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I happily want to dedicate this shoutout to first my family, they have always played a huge role in my life and molded me to become who I am today. Secondly, I want to give recognition to my clients, close friends, and most importantly people with goals and that want to achieve them (a visionary), but the difference is that these people take action no matter the circumstance. I am influenced by individuals that start from the bottom and create the life they want for themselves. We all have a story and what I realized from my own experiences is that I get more inspired to know how someone else’s story is told.
