We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmin Whitley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmin, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I can remember I have alway loved fashion and the art of design in general. When i was 7 years old i remember being fascinated with how stunning my moms perfume collection was, I loved how each bottle had a unique design. I have a deep appreciation for all things beautiful in the style and beauty space , but also architecture , decor , and beautiful food. When i was in high school i took a fashion merchandising class and from then on i knew i wanted to pursue a career in fashion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is my true love, being a wardrobe stylist and creating fashion moments with my clients will always be my happy place. I think what sets me apart from others is that I am not only in love with style, I love people. I think my gift is not only taste but knowing my clients well and drawing inspiration from who they are and translating that into expressing themselves and telling their story through the looks they wear. I love being able to help my clients feel confident and help them develop their style in a collaborative way. There are always going to be challenges , I think being resilient is the only way to overcome. Learning to pivot and be fluid with the ever changing industry is how I keep myself inspired. I think one of the biggest lessons I have learned is setting boundaries when it comes to creative control on big projects.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have such a love hate relationship with LA sometimes, but there is NO shortage of exciting things to do! If I had someone visiting my idea of a good time would start out with a really good coffee spot. I love Copa Vida, or Syndicate. There is nothing better than starting your day off with the perfect coffee and pastry. Next I would visit the huntington, it has so many beautiful museums on the property as well as gardens , it will forever be one of my favorite places. I am italian and italian food happens to be my favorite! I would recommend dinner at Union, a michelin star restaurant that doesn’t feel pretentious – the meatballs and the olive oil cake are a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I was in high school i took a fashion merchandising class and my teacher really guided me in such a big way. She made it seem possible to have a fulfilling career in the fashion space. On a much deeper level my mom was always the most supportive, creative, and impactful person in my entire journey. She helped me navigate the business side of becoming a wardrobe stylist, she also opened my eyes to thinking bigger and more outside the box. When my dreams were more ” realistic ” she would always help shift my perspective to a mindset of endless possibility. She helped me grow as a person and as a creative
