We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmine Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Throughout my years of working, I’ve realized that I wanted to be self-employed. I’ve realized that I’d rather work towards something other than just money. I’ve realized that I’m a creator and not just a consumer. Now I’m the owner of Jaz Blooms, a cosmetic and accessory line, Spiffy Cleans, a cleaning company AND co-owner of Muddgear clothing line!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Jaz Blooms, my cosmetic line, is my baby! Watching her grow from the beginning to now, 4 years later, has been amazing! I started Jaz Blooms as a single mom and i was driven by the idea of given my daughter the best life i could possibly give her. I’ve gotten this far through consistency, daily posts, email list and online promotions. They were the keys for my success. However, it was/is not easy. Having multiple businesses makes is hard to be consistent with all of them. I tend to find myself focusing on one at a time and neglecting certain aspects of the others. But when i see my customers sharing posts wearing my products or sharing my posts, it gets me back on track. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned that you have to be patient and focus on growing your business instead of focusing on the profit. That will come with growth. I want people to know that behind my business is a black, strong, beautiful woman (inside and out) who wants every single human being to feel confident about themselves while wearing my brand(s). Whether it’s the cosmetics or clothes, i want my customers to feel like they can conquer the world, because they can!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love my city, Baltimore! You can check out the best breakfast at Miss Shirley, take a lunch cruise on a huge boat downtown at out inner harbor and enjoy a nice hibachi dinner cooked right in front of you at Kobe’s Steakhouse. But we’re really famous for our crab which are all over the city, literally!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my brother Jordan. He motivates me every time i have doubts about starting a new project, business venture, etc. i can always can on him for his opinion as entrepreneur to entrepreneur. My boyfriend Tevin also deserves credit. He made me co-owner of his clothing line, Muddgear. Not only does he allow me to express my creativity through the clothes, but he trusts me with other important decisions within the brand. Those 2 guys play very important roles in my journey.
