We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well, this answer can be a long-winded one so I will just make it short and sweet.
I started off my digital career as an affiliate marketer and lead generator for a handful of networks. After being a “Super Affiliate” for a network for 2 years in a row, one of their customers reached out to me directly and offered to pay me 25% than my monthly average for 18 months if I would simply do for their website what I did to mine to get all this traffic. In my mind, it was a pretty “simple” thing to get high converting traffic to a website, but little did I know that this skill set is what most companies covet. So, I accepted the offer, and a few weeks into it had another company reach out, then another, and then another.
About 12 months into this, I started realizing that there was a dire need for quality digital marketing services. Many of these companies have been scammed by other companies that have over-promised and under-delivered, so I set out to establish a company that would truly care about the growth of their customers and integrates directly with their success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A little fun fact about myself is that I got a scholarship to play football at Arizona State University, and also spent time (not much time though) in the NFL. What I learned from playing high level sports, is that performance is all that matters. Whether I lived in the gym, or only worked out once a week, it did not matter to the coaches as long as you were a good teammate and you performed on the field.
I take this same outlook to my business. The number one metric I focus on is performance. How are we performing for you? Are we generating you more business? Are my services getting you more sales? Are more efforts making you a more successful business? If the answer is not yes to all of these, then I am not performing for my customer.
This mindset has really made my company stand out from my competition, and has developed my companies success rate to be 94%, meaning 94% of our customers have seen growth and an increase in sales/leads/business from my services.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first stop is the beach! We would head straight to Malibu and get some sand and salt on our feet. From there we would go to Lily’s in Malibu and get some of the best fish tacos and burritos that SoCal has to offer. Next, we would head to one of the local breweries, Tarantula Hill, Made West, Institution etc.. followed by my favorite restaurant for dinner and drinks, Decker Kitchen in Westlake Village.
When I retire, I may just do this on repeat for a few months.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give my father a BIG shout-out when it comes to my entrepreneurship. Both my sisters and I have all started our own businesses, and fully are independent of the corporate rat race. My father set the example for us when he left a corporate job to start his own company. We all witnessed the growth, independence and freedom that came along with being a small business owner, while also seeing how performing quality work can not just change your life, but those that are all around you and your community.
A thriving business changes the lives of so many people, and he taught me that success is something not to be experienced alone. I live by this motto and try to empower my team, family, clients and those that I have the chance to influence.
