We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazzi Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazzi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thoughts and inspiration behind starting my business really spawned from me asking myself, “Why wait?” Many times, we look for the perfect scenario, the perfect timing, a sign from the sky…and I was over it. I was tired of down playing my potential and I was ready to just jump in and do the work to begin anew.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a singer/songwriter, born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca. I love creating meaningful music that is in many ways tied to a bigger message and purpose. Whether it’s about relationships, positivity, believing in yourself…I want people to relate to it. I also own an online jewelry and accessories store, Mod Glam Gems, which absolutely embodies the outer, fabulous parts of me! I want people that buy these pieces to get a boost of confidence and feel empowered to be their best self. The jewelry is handpicked and curated by me. It’s nice to show that I’m multifaceted. I find joy and feel a sense of relief because I have found what I love and I do it well. There’s one lesson I can take from both being in entertainment and being a business owner: Every shortcut you take will affect your backend. So be thorough and dedicate your heart to your craft (s).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop? The Grain Cafe. It’s home of really yummy vegan food and their breakfast burrito is mind-blowing. For lunch, Doomies Next Mex for the best vegan mexican food and for dinner, you can’t go wrong with Veggie Grill! I love LA because there’s literally every type of food you can imagine in this city. We’d definitely hit Malibu to go lay on the beach and Eso Won Bookstore for the latest reads from Black Authors and Creators.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my family. They encourage me, they give me room to create and do what I love, and I am forever grateful because their love for me shows through their actions and support.
