We had the good fortune of connecting with jeffrey gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi jeffrey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business because I wanted creative freedom. It sounds so corny, but I really didn’t like, and still don’t like, an office job or parameters that I have to work within. It feels so confining and suffocating to me. So starting my own business was the only way that I could express myself to the fullest extent and not have to worry about some corporate overlord looking down on me and my work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My magazine is one of several luxury magazines on newsstands. However, we set ourselves apart because we do not varnish our editorial with nice reviews. We are brutally honest with everything we do. We set ourselves apart because everything you read in our magazine comes from a first person perspective. We never just rely on public relations people telling us how things are. We have to see, hear, taste, feel and experience everything we cover.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love LA and I love to highlight its best spots in my magazine. So this is easy for me. First, I’d take someone to the Griffith Observatory. It is iconic and gives an unrivaled view of LA. From there, I’d head to Santa Monica and eat at Bar Monette. It is a cozy, upscale place, yet casual at the same time. And food it out of this world. I’d then head to downtown and bar hop around from the Intercontinental to 71 Above and 7 Grand. These are all great spots. For the best burger in LA, I’d head to the Redwood Bar. It is great for karaoke and a cool vibe. Pasadena is good for an entire day in itself. From the Rose Bowl, to walking the Arroyo Seco, to Old Town and tacos at Arturo’s truck on Fair Oaks. Another day would be down by the water in Manhattan Beach cruising on my electric bike all the way to El Segundo to watch the planes take off. I have so many ideas and that is why I love being a born and raised Angeleno.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my family. They were always there to champion me when I was unsure of my next step. They gave me the foothold and the reassurance to take the leap into my own business. It is a very scary proposition to leave a steady job and start working for yourself. So having my family by my side really gave me the opportunity to learn, fail and succeed without having to go it alone. In addition, whenever I was short on staff, they filled the gap happily and were really pivotal to my success.
