Meet Jen Herrmann | ’40 under 40′ Marketing Strategist & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Herrmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jen, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Before I started my own business and a family, success was always a promotion or an award at work. I was passionate about climbing the corporate ladder. After starting a business and being humbled by what it takes to build something great, priorities shifted. It was no longer about the recognition from others, but the pride I felt myself. Furthermore, success has evolved even more as I’ve started a family. Success, to me, is building a thriving, sustainable business while spending the most amount of time with my family as possible. I have two little kids and I’m fortunate to spend lots of time with them during the week while still running a successful, booming business.

What should our readers know about your business?
What I’m most proud of is what made me uncomfortable initially. I had a hard time picking one path, so I built two businesses. I run a blog and am a content creator for jennaye.com. It’s here that I’m able to have fun, work with brands I love and test new digital marketing strategies.
On the flip side, I am the co-founder of The Marketing Greenhouse, a digital marketing agency in service of businesses looking to start, scale or structure. We’re unique because not only are we two founders from entrepreneurial families, but we tie tight KPIs to beautiful, impactful digital strategies.
It’s definitely not been easy to build both businesses. I started my blog as a side hustle that I built over 3 years before being able to go full-time. I missed out on lots of fun with friends and other social activities because I was working nights and weekends.
With The Marketing Greenhouse, it’s been a fun challenge as we launched at the beginning of the pandemic. The one consistent piece is the extreme highs and lows. You can go from feeling like you’re winning at life to closing up shop and back to winning again all in one day. Once you adjust to the emotional side of being a business owner, life gets easier.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The fun part about living in a big city is trying all of the new restaurants. Ka’Teen is at the top of my list right now.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout to one of my favorite bosses, Tad Jenkins. He believed in my early on in my career, nurtured my career by mentoring me while he managed me and even after he left the company. To this day, he puts his people first by checking in with me quarterly to see how he can help and continue to mentor me.
