We had the good fortune of connecting with Rita Kealey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rita, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
WOW! What an important question and one that truly resonates with me. I have found myself thinking about this often. Work.. life…balance. Becoming a mom has really shown me how precious time is and how important proper time management is. I have a 4 year old and a 22 month old and I am running my own. business during a pandemic! My work as as event planner has really helped me strategize and make the most of my time and my day. I have created a routine that really works for me where I get to spend quality time with my children while also not having to sacrifice my career. As a new mother, I. really struggled with the balance. I tried to do everything all at once and I felt like I was failing at it all. There must a plan in place to really make things work smoothly. It is really important for me to be flexible and cater to my clients’ schedules but I have become much better at offering times that still allow me give my kids the attention they need. I am fortunate in that I have a lot of support from my family and especially my husband. I have also become a really exceptional multitasker. Balance to me is truly giving your all to whatever is front of you and being completely present. Our phones and constant screen time are a powerful distraction so I try to keep my phone away when it’s time to play with the kids, feed them dinner or put them to sleep. Someone I really admire once told me, you only need to devote 15 minutes a day of undivided attention to your kids to create a strong bond – that always felt very doable and comfortable to me. Of course, I crave a lot more time with my kids and we definitely make that happen. I am really grateful to be able to be an involved parent and run my business. I truly wouldn’t be as happy without one or the other – I feel complete this way and that is my life balance.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

We love to create an open and honest relationship with our clients and surpass all their expectations. It is important to connect and align visions to turn your clients dreams into a reality. I love creative details and pulling inspirations from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. I pride myself in giving constructive feedback to my clients wishes and suggesting alternatives to give them everything they want. I have the best clients and their support and loyalty has got me to where I am today. I have an incredible relationship with many high-end and well respected vendors in the industry. I find it very important to create a peaceful, pleasant and fun working environment. I can’t say the road to where I am today was easy but it was worth it! It was full of hard work, sacrifice and dedication. I am so committed. to my clients and I treat every event as if it were my own. I overcame challenges simply by learning from them. When people invest so much money into an event you want to make sure they are happy at the end of the day. It’s a lot of pressure and it takes a huge group of people to make it all happen. I love the directing the entire event day and seeing all the hard work come to life – it’s very rewarding.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It is such an iconic landmark here in Los Angeles and truly stunning. I love the polo lounge and their pool. From there I may take a trip down to Venice Beach and Abbot Kinney – I love the culture and art there, I find it very inspiring. If my friend was up for some physical activity, I think Runyon Canyon and is another important stop. It has incredible views and is great for people watching. From there I would definitely go to some sushi restaurants – I really think we have some of the best ones in LA. During the trip, we would definitely take a drive through the Malibu Canyon’s and end up driving down PCH. It is so beautiful and always makes me feel like I’ve left on a vacation. I love Paradise Cove. Then it would be more food and walking around different neighborhoods just exploring. I love Topanga Canyon, The Palisades and Toluca Lake. For nightlife, one of my favorites spots is the Abbey – it’s always a great time and they play the best music!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to send out a shoutout to Rebecca Benenati for fostering the most incredible and powerful women’s/new mothers group. I would be lost without all the advice and support of my mommy and me friends. THANK YOU ALL. I have to also mention my Broker, mentor and friend Melissa Sofia with the Avenue Home Collective with has 4 little kids of her own and is running an empire! Her success is SOOOO inspiring and she is the best mom. My closest girl friends, who have also recently become mothers – I love our tribe. It takes a village and we have the best circle of friends. Finally, my husband, Tyler. I truly could not do any of this without you. I love you so much.
