We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenni Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenni, is there something you believe many others might not?
Get a good job. What is a good job? Is it an idea that making a good amount of money is more beneficial? This statement is too broad and really does not help anyone. If we have learned anything from the past year it is that factors of our personal life are constantly changing and landing a “good job” can be taken from you and gone tomorrow, so there has to be more to it.
Instead try looking at these factors of first finding something that you love to do, or something that constantly keeps you excited to be apart of (team). Then finding an avenue where you can continue to learn and evolve within your path (growth). The biggest blessing I have found in my career along with these first two factors is working with people that become life long friends (family), which creates not only a “good job”, but a great life you are excited to get up everyday for.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting off as a personal trainer, then athletic director, and coach I really had no idea where my career would end up but I love every minute of it. There is something to constantly learn in this field so I am always humbled as well as have the opportunity to teach others. Along the way I learned to learn from everyone and not try to be anyone but myself in my work. When you are yourself and stick to your brand, your vibe really does attract your tribe. I have strong women clients from all over the USA from professional athletes to stay at home moms that I have been able to introduce and turn into a team while hitting our own athletic accomplishments together! Being able to bring together athletes from all over, of all ages , who don’t know each other at first and then become a team with life long friendships is exactly why I will never quit. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
While being a coach, master trainer, instructor, and citizen you realize sports and teamwork or team movement is relative to everyday life and choices. I became a member of the Proactive Coaching team which has several books I am continuing to read all by Bruce E. Brown , which go into depth about positive coaching, teamwork, trust, & attitude. Life is an amazing sport. My favorite books by Bruce E. Brown are
