We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennie Najarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennie, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The Wellness Connection is a community based business that aims to fill the wellness gap for communities of color. Communities of color are typically not presented with many opportunities to prioritize their wellbeing. For instance, basic needs such as housing and food.
Wellness is viewed as a luxury for many of us who come from low income households, or we’ve never seen what true self care looks like. However, if the pandemic has taught us anything, its that we must take more responsibility and better care over our health and wellness. However, there is a notable shift and now more than ever there is strong collective desire to heal and maintain good health.
The Wellness Connection is an aspiring apothecary and event space. We currently offer herbal teas, steams, and host wellness events. We exist for those who want to break generational cycles, have ever felt like they don’t belong, who want to make positive changes but don’t know where to start, and for those that believe they deserve better.
The Wellness Connection is for you.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets The Wellness Connection apart is that we take a holistic approach to wellness, we’re not a one size fits all business. Our mission and overall goal is to fill the wellness gap for communities of color.
We focus on returning to our roots which includes the utilization of herbal and natural products, and community events focused on an array of topics that directly and indirectly affect our well-being. In the future, we will open an apothecary storefront with event space so that our community can have access to these offerings.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much to do in LA! But If my best friend were visiting the area, i’d definitely take them on a hike somewhere in the Santa Monica Mountains, then we’d have brunch at Blu Jam Cafe, hang out in the arts district, and get some drinks and dinner at Guerrilla Tacos! Good eats, and awesome sights all in one day. Yes, it’s doable, even with LA traffic, you just need to know the shortcuts 🙂
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to shoutout my family for always supporting me and rooting for me. I also want to recognize the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator for allowing me to be part of their Founders Business Accelerator. This program provided me with a business coach, resources, and deeper understanding of how to run and grow my business, for FREE! Major game changer.
