Meet Jennie Nigrosh | CEO & Founder, The Green Garmento LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennie Nigrosh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennie, how do you define success?
In a world that is constantly communicating, I believe true success lies in creating something that actually resonates—something that sparks a meaningful conversation and has the power to endure. When building a disruptor like The Green Garmento, it would be easy to measure success by units sold. But for me, success is about shifting perspective—about creating an entirely new category, challenging long-standing habits, and inspiring people to rethink their relationship with plastic. If we can move the conversation forward and be part of a larger change, that’s success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve had a very (as the kids say) non-linear path to building The Green Garmento.
I grew up in a recycling family before it was cool. My dad owned a cardboard plant, and my siblings and I were sent around the neighborhood collecting discarded Sunday papers to get recyled. At the time, I thought it was mortifying. Now I realize it was basically my first lesson in sustainability—and persistence.
Before launching the company, I sold just about everything—shoes, cars, financial printing—and spent time at Warner Bros. Records in strategic marketing. Somewhere along the way, I realized I didn’t just want to sell things or hang with rock stars (ok that last part is a lie), I wanted to fix problems. Starting with my own closet that was drowning in plastic. I realized the dry cleaning industry’s reliance on single-use plastic was a good place to start.
So I introduced a reusable solution. Today, our products are used around the world and have helped keep millions of pounds of plastic out of the ecosystem. That’s the part I’m most proud of.
It definitely wasn’t easy—there were plenty of “hell nah’s” and moments where quitting would have been simpler. But I’ve learned that if you believe in what you’re building (and maybe have a slightly glass half full personality), you can keep moving forward.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Funny you should ask! My dear friend is actually on his way to visit from London. I’ve lived in LA for 26 years, and I’m still completely in love with every aspect of Southern California. Being a tourist in my own ginormous city is one of my favorite things to do.
We’ll definitely start with a drive along the PCH—it never gets old—and stop at a few classics, including the newly reopened Duke’s and other spots that have held strong post-fires. I always love supporting places that have that kind of resilience and history.
There will absolutely be some live music—we might try to score tickets to see Yungblud at The Greek—and of course, we’ll go to the movies, because there’s nothing quite like seeing a film in LA. It just hits differently here.
I’d also love to take him back to one of my old “homes” and walk around the Warner Bros. lot—it still feels a totally magical to me. And thanks to my circle of comedians friends, we’ll likely sneak into a comedy show (love the Laugh Factory), or my favorite underground variety Show “Scot Nery’s Boobietrap” in Santa Monica, or even an upcoming taping Jonathan Burns’ next TV Special, which is always such a fun, behind-the-scenes experience.
If we’re feeling adventurous, I’d take him on a drive to Mammoth for the mountains—or head out to Palm Springs to marvel at the mid-century architecture and desert vibe. I heard you can even rent the Elvis Honymoon house!
Honestly, the hardest part is narrowing it down—there are endless museums, hikes, little neighborhoods, dog parks, and hidden gems. LA is one of those places where you can do something completely different every day. My goal is just to show him as much of it as I can.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
No journey like this is ever built alone. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have the unwavering support of my husband, Rick, along with my family and close friends. But I’m just as inspired by the people I’ve never met—the customers who choose our products because they care about both a clean closet and a clean planet, and the dry cleaners, launderers, retailers and hotel partners who have embraced our mission and shared how it’s helped transform their businesses.
Knowing that we’re all working toward something bigger—reducing plastic and creating more thoughtful, sustainable systems—is what motivates me every single day.
