Meet Jennifer Aos | Sustainable Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Aos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what matters most to you?
I only source products and materials from other companies who share my values. I go to great lengths to assure that the company I am dealing with has ethical standards regarding the environment, animal cruelty, employee wages, quality products, fair prices and eco-friendly materials. I also like to support women and minority owned businesses and anyone in the local Los Angeles area, or at least in California. The top three categories which contribute most to the destruction of the environment are: Buildings, Transportation and the Animal Agriculture Industry. Consumers have the power to change these industries for the better through their spending choices.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I never repeat the same design or color in any of my projects or artwork. Everything is one of a kind and I don’t use a formula for any of my designs. I believe the architecture of the home and the personality of the clients reveal what style design would be best. It almost seems like the house has a voice of it’s own. There are just certain things that don’t work with specific landscapes and building styles. It’s important to respect the architectural characteristics of the home as well as the client’s expressed preferences and personal style.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Gracias Madres Vegan Restaurant, Zuma Beach, Runyon Canyon Hiking Trail, LACMA, Broad or MOCA museum. And a concert at Hollywood Bowl or Ace Hotel downtown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
LEED https://www.usgbc.org/leed
It was not until I became LEED accredited that I really learned how my design choices fully affect the environment.
