We had the good fortune of connecting with JayBee. The Fashion Forward Host, Cancer Survivor & Community Event Organizer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JayBee, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
I know a lot of people will say it but The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz; literally life-changing. It was gifted to me by my life coach and I read it, then listened to it on soundcloud, then watched a YouTube adaptation. The Agreements really helps you, get YOU together in 4 steps, with a how and why. I was happy to finally read something that wasn’t a cliche’. Give me practical, tangible any day. 1. Be Impeccable with your word. 2. Always do your best. 3. Don’t assume. 4. Don’t take anything personal. Not in that order but order doesn’t matter. These 4 seemingly simple practices changed how I viewed myself and how I was actively attempting to change a lot of things I didn’t like about myself. The one I find extremely difficult, is not taking anything personally. Everything is not about me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an all around entertainer. A multi-hyphenate if there ever was one. I write, sing, dance, model, plan and execute events, speak at schools, emcee, and dress my butt off. What sets me apart is that I actually have a resume that supports every one of those titles. I’m true to this. I wear a lot of hats because I didn’t have a book of people who could do the things I needed in order to operate in excellence. That hats keep me busy. I want things to be what I see in my mind and its hard to convey that to people especially with no money behind it, so I do a lot of my own stunts. Started More2JayBee, LLC in 2018, Compton Celebrity lifestyle brand in 2019 and presented my Ted Talk in 2020 on Celebrating Your Cancer. Go watch that! You’ll see why and how I’m used to having to find the way and make the way. 90% of my content creation videos, I edit myself. Literally, on my phone or iPad because I don’t have a laptop or computer. I ask my neighbors, my sister, even my mom to take photos of me. I got really good at taking them fast because I felt bad for making them all take so many. “I just need 3 good ones” Ha.

Where my ambition came from, to do these things regardless of a hardship, I’m not sure. I’ve always been like this. That makes me proud. It’s a survivor mentality, knowing that the marathon continues. Being black and female, you have to be smarter and faster and better than everybody, all the time. It’s exhausting a but nothing in life worth having is easy. We have to learn that most of those things require a sacrifice. I’m excited to see what all my hard work and Gods hand can do in this life. Just because I didn’t have certain people or things to make my path to success easier or the newest and best tech andname brand clothes, I still put on a show and I’m still somebody. That’s the soul purpose of Compton Celebrity, EVERYBODYS SOMEBODY. Doesn’t matter where you come from.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m extremely new to Las Vegas, Nevada and I don’t drink or gamble at all. Not my thing. So I’m looking for everything else to do. Definitely have to stop by Alegiant Stadium and take a VIP tour with one of my coworkers. Go Raiders! I’d take my bestie to Fremont Street or First Fridays for the art and music of downtown. Next morning, we’ll go to my favorite brunch spot in Summerlin called Sunny Side Up. They have some of the best everything on the menu, but I’m suggesting the French toast. Then we’ll take a two hour drive to Utah and check out Zion National Forest for a hike and photo op. I’ve been traveling and going to a lot of nice hiking trails and spots. I’d recommend everyone see the Grand Canyon in your lifetime. It took my breath away. I don’t think people realize that these places really exist and that there’s life past your porch. Anywhere I haven’t been is somewhere I’m willing to go, at least once and who better to experience life with than your best friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this Shoutout to the movers and doers of the city of Compton. All the non-profits, students and parents I encounter who tell me I inspire them, but its really them who inspire me. To my artistic and faithful twin sister who listens when no else will and a host of friends that I’d rather not do life without. Last but not least, nothing you could say, do or read, couldn’t and wouldn’t be done without God. Thank you for not letting me give up when I begged you to.
