We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Joy Tamera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny Joy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After graduating from college, and landing what at the time was my dream job, I shortly became mentally and physically drained. I was the lead designer for a dotcom, so I was making good money. I was also doing something creative, so for a time, I thought I had made it. Then the long hours of working on a project that I wasn’t passionate about set in. Thus began my soul searching. I became a massage therapist, a yoga instructor, trained with energy workers, and most importantly I traveled the world. I was able to move out of my comfort zone and see how other cultures lived. It was on this journey that I realized I wanted to work with other creative and soulful individuals to share our unique gifts and talents. I created a small 1-day event called Soul Space. Our mission was to share the arts & the holistic healing arts with the community. Then when I met my soul mate, we formed Soul Garden Space to support folks in cultivating their passions’ and purpose. And now along with a few other business partners, we utilize our creativity and voices to produce a powerful change in the world. It was important to me to discover what lit me up and how to make a living doing that. Then I saw the opportunity to teach others how to do the same, and thus began our business Soul Garden Space.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What is unique about my art is that I am a holistic healing artist. My canvas is the being in front of me, the energy surrounding them, and all the experiences that color them. I am in sheer joy with each and every session I get to offer my clients. I have been able to take all my life experiences, traumas, education, and intuition, to create an organic experience. The modalities I weave together include shamanic gifts, yogic teachings, transformational coaching, breathwork, energetic/plant medicine, bodywork, sound healing, music, movement, and creative writing. Each session is unique and divinely guided. If you would have told me 20 years ago, that I would be able to combine all my passions and experiences to not only make a difference in people’s lives, but that I would also be helping them transition from a soul-sucking career to a life of purpose, and at the same time I’d have a thriving life doing it. I would have thought you were joking, and at the same time there would have been that glimmer of hope, I would have said please show me how. It was definitely not easy. There was a lot of time and money invested in all my training, and the life experiences are priceless. Personal trauma and abuse were the pieces that I found the most challenging to overcome. You know that voice in your head that says you’re not good enough, you can’t do that. Well, being sexually abused at a young age, and being in a mentally abusive narcissistic relationship later in life is a true mental, emotional and energetic trip. I have so much compassion for those who have been there. It takes perseverance to come out on the other side of it. Surrounding myself with positive outgoing people made a huge difference for me. I honestly first found my courage and strength by being around theirs. Pushing my edges was the next big game-changer. I got involved in theatre where I would be center stage, all eyes on me, and I found myself comfortable being seen and using my body to express itself. Next, traveling to countries that were not of my native tongue was had me truly speak up for myself, even when I didn’t want to. Then I studied with various shaman, elders, and coaches and then practiced and developed my craft and artistry of healing. One of my favorite elements of practice is going into deep ceremony with the elements, creator, and my guides. Spirit moves me and shifts the energy in a space with fire, sound, voice, and intention. It’s a soul alchemy, and so beautiful to witness. Through it all, I discovered that no matter what obstacles I faced, true freedom and power come from within. I learned to speak and embody my truth and live my passion and purpose by walking through the fire of life. So, this leads me to Soul Garden Space’s mission. We cultivate passions’ and purpose whether you find yourself in a soul-sucking job, or your still soul searching, we support you in living your truth by transitioning into your purpose work. We utilize our creativity and our voices to produce a powerful change in the world. We have strategies that help you transform your life. We support the collective so we may all thrive. Like branches that vine, may we grow more fully through support and nourishment. To cultivate the mindset of love, abundance, joy, and empowerment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually got to do this about 15 years ago with my travel buddy I met in Spain. My tastes have obviously been refined over the years, and I would take things at a bit slower pace than a whirlwind of sites and experiences. I would swoop them up from LAX and then we would head to a little somewhat hidden spot of nature near me. We would kick off our shoes, walk through the creek and then find a spot for some earthing. Travel can be intense on the nervous system. Then we would head back to my house, get refreshed and then head to Nelson’s at Terranea where we would enjoy drinks and a meal overlooking the beautiful ocean. We would then walk down by the cliffs to soak up the sunset. In post or pre-Covid days, we head to 360 Emergence for Vitamine Dance and then grab some yummy nourishment at a cozy cafe and then head to the beach to hang and catch some rays. The next day I would lead a beach yoga class and a sound healing. The next day we would head to the Wilson Park Farmers Market and pack a picnic, then we would take the shuttle to catch some live music under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl. The following day we would sleep in and then get dolled up for some dinner and salsa dancing. Then we would crash at an Airbnb in Topanga where we would catch a fun outdoor music festival. The next day we would go for a hike and then create a little fire of our own and create a sweet ceremonial space together. The next day we would head up to Ojai for some nature, shamanic bodywork, and a soak in the Ecotopia Hot Springs. And then I would send them home adventure-filled and refreshed. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to Creator for illuminating each and every step in my path. I trust my divine mission in this universe is guided, and I am so grateful for this connection. Next, I recognize my parents and my dear soulmate, Aaron Arredondo, whose love and support help me feel like I can soar. To all my teachers, mentors, transformational coaches, and guides especially Christel Hughes, Koyote the Blind, and Rose Cole, thank you for sharing your wisdom and gifts. To my business partner Rebecca Randolph who brings life to our programs and makes work fun. To my mentor Selma Harwell for your constant love and friendship.
