We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Practicing!! I bought a wig and started playing around with braids and updos trying to create different styles and techniques that I would learn from watching videos and tutorials. It definitely helped me improve and fine tune my skills. I also posted consistently on social media helping my following grow which lead to more inquiries from brides about my services.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to do romantic boho styles. Anything with braids and twists and texture is my specialty. I’m proud of how much I’ve improved over time. I never thought I could do this as a career. I think I was holding myself back for a while until I started practicing more and started working with a couple of bridal hair teams that have helped me get work. It helped my confidence and gave me more experience and made me realize that I can do this and that it can be a career for me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the beach! I love being outside especially with the warmer weather and the beach view is so beautiful. I’d also take a little road trip with them down to San Diego and hang around the Gas lamp area they have a great comedy club down there called American Comedy Co. they always have the best comedians! I’d also take them to the Coin-Op it’s a video game bar and has tons of video games and so many pinball machines which are my favorite. It’s a great time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this to my grandma. She was a hairstylist and I always looked up to her and wanted to be just like her. I probably wouldn’t be in this industry if it wasn’t for her. I would also like to dedicate this to my parents and loved ones who have always been supportive and nurturing of my creative side. They are my biggest cheerleaders. I’d also like to thank all of the wonderful stylists I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with for helping me learn, giving me opportunities, and inspiring me.
