We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?

Benjamin Franklin and William Shakespeare are often misquoted as having said, “Jack of all trades, master of none.” What Franklin and Shakespeare actually said was a version of “Jack of all trades, and a master of one.” In business, especially in entrepreneurship, surviving and thriving is often dependent on knowing and understanding a little about a lot, but also having a purpose towards a goal and specific passion in one thing.

It is also true that consistency and greatness work hand-in-hand. Greatness should be something that stands the test of time. It takes consistency to be great. As an entrepreneur one has to be committed to uncertainty and learning from things that did not work.

Consistency is the key to success. You also have to be willing to stand longer than the next person. The most consistent story I hear is, unfortunately, “I wanted to do that.” Keep the faith, keep working, and be the thing you want to be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are few locations that are must see and taste in Southern California. Eastside Italian Deli Downtown L.A., Cole’s, Musso & Frank, Dan Tana’s, and Peppone are terrific in Los Angeles. Rothchild’s, A Crystal Cove, and Javier’s in Newport Beach are mainstays. A drive on the Pacific Coast Highway, seeing a Dodgers game at Dodger Stadium (or Kings hockey or Lakers basketball), seeing a game or concert at the Rose Bowl, visiting a speakeasy or early to mid-century 20th century place like Clifton’s, Edison, or Birds & Bees. Southern California has amazing cuisine across a spectrum as diverse as the city itself. Casa la Dona for tacos in downtown Los Angeles is fantastic. A list could never do justice to what the greater Los Angeles area provides. I encourage you to go out and explore. I grew up in Los Angeles so reach out if you want recommendations.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

The list is long of those who have helped and encouraged me, completely. God, family, friends, colleagues, and organizations that guided, loved, encouraged, supported, and provided opportunities along this beautiful journey. Thank you for being you. Mentors are everything in business. We need people to survive and thrive. We can learn from people. Never cease to reach out for informational interviewers.
