We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Fury aka Jeremy Lublin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, what makes you happy? Why?
Being busy. I’m at my worst without a purpose and tend to get into trouble then. I know it sounds cliche and new age-y, but serving others makes me happy. That’s why I love playing music. When it’s at its best, it’s a completely reciprocating relationship between the audience and myself. I think that’s also the healthiest and truest form of happiness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m still learning and there are new challenges every day. I’ve been putting out records and touring professionally and semi-professionally for over 20 years. My first records to come out on mini-major or indie labels were back in the early 2000’s when streaming just began to drastically change the record business. I think, from a business perspective, it was a really unique time. It’s also interesting to see how streaming and online business has also affected the entire world, not just music. Coming into the music industry at that time made me more adaptable and resilient. There was no normal, so I just came to expect the music industry as unpredictable. It’s crazy to see how new trends in how people listen to and find new music become the norm. TikTok and Spotify Playlists barely existed prior to the pandemic, now in just a few short years, they’ve made norms like radio and major record shops nearly obsolete when it comes to purchasing and finding new music. In five years, maybe that will be true of the former as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Brooklyn, New York, so there is plenty to do. We are blessed with so much musical talent that it is easy to take for granted the abundance of music in the area. We also have every kind of food from every part of the world within three blocks of my apartment. We have amazing dive bars, cocktail bars, not to mention all the tourist attractions. Honestly, when friends come to town, I think it’s best to hit the streets without a plan. It’s Summer, so I think hanging in the park doing a picnic is a great way to start followed by some vintage store shopping and bar hopping. From there, we could hop on the ferry and see where the day takes us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been most recently working with producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist, Mike Abiuso, at Behind the Curtains Media. He’s been helping me to record and produce the new Jeremy & The Harlequins sound and I’m really excited about it. Of course, I also want to thank all the band members who I play with and have played with in the past and all the people who have helped spread our music around the world.
