We had the good fortune of connecting with Jermaine Saunders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jermaine, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
My end goal with my art/career is to leave behind work that inspires. I’ve been inspired by so many movies and art since I was young. You can find this love of pop culture and movies in my artwork today. The best thing for me is creating a concept and executing it to the best of my capabilities with 3D Software.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to create artwork by parodying mass media exaggerating certain formal aspects inherent to our contemporary society. Investigating the dynamics of landscape, including the manipulation of it’s effects and the limits of spectacle based on our assumptions of what landscape means to us. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realm of our imagination.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots to chill in and around Los Angeles are the Palos Verdes Cliffs, when I want to get out of the city and not take a super long drive Palo Verdes is a go to. And when I want to be in the hustle and flow of the city Grand Central market is a great place Downton LA to grab a bite and people watch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all my friends, family and supporters of my art, without they support I probably would have quit along time ago.
