We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerome Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerome, what do you attribute your success to?
Being 100% authentic to myself and knowing that at the end of the day what’s for me, is for me. I can’t compare my journey to the next person. I can’t ask why certain people got roles that I have audition for even though I know I could have booked it. A lot of the times it’s not based on hard work or talent, it’s so many other factors that a lot of the time don’t even have anything to do with me. Most of the time the right opportunities tend to happen naturally and organically.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up in the DMV area I was exposed to so many different types of people and styles of music from Go-Go to Afrobeats in the mid 2000s before it got popular, latin music, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Rock and so much more. My style of music is a melting pot of it all because I’m not in a box and the versatility can be heard in the music. I self taught my self how to produce and write music when I was in elementary school. 1 of the people I studied as a writer is the legendary Rakim. My most recent single actually features him, it’s call THE GOD MC so it’s actually a full circle moment for me. The fact that I’m indpendent and I’m able to move how I do is something I’m super happy about. I don’t HAVE to do anything, I pretty much do what I want, when I want and how I want. My list of growing credits include ESPN, Nike, Disney, Starz Power, Netflix On My Block, Honey 4: Rise Up & Dance, Selena Gomez Coach 2018 campaign, Reebok, Grubhub, Oscar Mayer, American Idol, T.I., B.o.B., NBA, MTV, NFL, NHL, PGA, Raheem DeVaughn, GQ Magazine, NASCAR, Fritos, Starbucks, Macy’s, Party City, Colgate, Harry Potter, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Young Chris, TIME Magazine, G-Unit, Playstation, Samsung, Cartoon Network, Comcast, Sports Illustrated, Casey Veggies, FOX, UFC, People Magazine, the Washington Wizards, Insider Marketing, PBS, Vogue Magazine, Allure Magazine, Twista, TV One, HarperCollins and more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Everyday would be different. We’ll go get something to eat 1st cause we gotta eat and it just depends on how we feeling in the moment. Then I would take them to the studio keep the good vibes going. Take a break go to the beach in Malibu to get away, chill, and recharge.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give credit to the whole DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia). It shaped me to who I am today. I have a certain edge to me that makes me be able to handle anything while also being lucky enough to be able to be exposed to a diverse environment and people of all backgrounds that have had a strong influence on me.
