Meet Jesamine De Leon | Data Scientist & Realtor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesamine De Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesamine, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
“You can’t ever reach perfection, but you can believe in an asymptote toward which you are ceaselessly striving.” – Paul Kalinithi, When Breath Becomes Air
Without failing, I wouldn’t have understood what it takes to truly succeed. For every downfall and mistake I’ve experienced, another rewarding and gratifying experience replaced it. Even if it took a bit of a while.
Rather than “give up,” it’s best to replace that negative ideology with something more positive, like “move forward.” As long as you’re living, you can’t really just “give up.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
If you’ve watched Gilmore Girls, you know that Kirk has had a multitude of jobs. I think I have him to blame for attempting so many career paths, all beginning at such a young age. After getting my workers permit in middle school at the age of 15, I already knew that anything I wanted, I had to work for. As I got older, I realized my worth and how much of an asset I was to every job I worked.
Now, I’m proud to say that I’m a Data Scientist, Coder and California Commercial Realtor. It certainly wasn’t easy and I had to overcome plenty of trials and tribulations to get to where I am today.
Moral of the story: Try. Make mistakes. It always gets better as long as you allow it to.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being so new to Austin, Texas, I probably would be one of the worst tour guides for my friends who were visiting. BUT from experience so far, I’ve learned that some of the best and scenic places to visit are:
– Paddle boarding on Ladybird Lake
– Grabbing a coffee by the lake at Mozart Coffee ;
– Bar-hopping on East Sixth
Austin is such an active city. There’s running clubs (which I admire, but will NOT be joining), book clubs (which I’m an avid member of!), superb restaurants and of course, world-famous barbecue (brisket is a MUST)!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
2023 has been one of the most life-changing and truly exhilarating years I’ve experienced so far. From experiencing one of the hardest heartbreaks in business, to moving to a completely new state a thousand miles away from home and not knowing a single soul, to feeling more at home than ever before, there are plenty I can thank.
First, the book “When Breath Becomes Air” is one of the best books I’ve read to date. The epilogue written by Kalanithi’s wife sets the bar and defines true love in all of its purity. My heart has never been fuller after reading those last few pages.
Finally, to all the new friends I’ve met here in Austin, Texas, thank you.
Without taking this risk of moving so far away, I would’ve never met such genuine and loving souls.
