We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Lamb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jess, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
City Queen Sounds- an indie music label just for the queens, featuring a collective of goddess stars from Cincy- created by Jess Lamb.

Cincinnati has the most collaborative, soulful music scene. There is such a natural sense of community within this city.

I have created my matrix here, wearing many hats- I am Songwriting Professor at Xavier University and Songwriting Professor at University of Cincinnati- College Conservatory of Music.
I am songwriter/publisher/producer/performer for myself. Working in the scene for over a decade, I have witnessed many women I admire, making it for themselves. Over the years many of us musical queens, have supported each other in our creative endeavors. I’m 2024 I decided, it was about time that I gave it a name, an ode to our Queen City (Cincy). I call it City Queen Sounds!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self made published singer-songwriter. I make my living making music, mentoring, performing, teaching. I’m just out here living my art. Living in my highest passion.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati is a cool vibe. You can walk into an venue and hear local music. You will witness artists popping up in restaurants, art galleries, music venues… The music scene is eclectic and original.
