We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesse, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to run my own business, after 25 years of working for other chefs and businesses, I wanted to be my own boss, also wanted to develop my own brand and style of cooking , which is a modern approach to southern with a emphasis on French cooking, I wanted to provide good food and service to the community.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a private chef that has celebrity clients, what I’m most proud of is my will and determination to work hard , being a chef of color in this industry has been challenging, but my mantra POW! Passion, opportunity work , kept me going .I started from the bottom and work my way up, from dishes, food service and culinary school , one lesson a really learned , was never let them see you sweat.. Nevergiveup
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First ,I would have the week plan out, from picking up, a planned dinner at home , just to catch up, then of course we would have to explore New York City, check out a local show, comedy and few top restaurants, check out some historical properties visit , Empire State Building , visit twin towers, 911 memorial , check out some jazz , and last BBQ got to have BBQ.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother ,Milled Jones, also so many chefs have help me along the way, like chef Dennis Foy’s ,chef Graig Shelton and David drake, they taught me classic cooking in French cuisine , I m grateful to them, help me be the chef I am today,
