We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Sasomsup and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesse, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My wife was pregnant with our first child and I had the sudden urge to start a business before we got too busy with life. I had to take a well calculated risk by studying almost every industry. I found that almost half of small businesses failed within the first 5 years which prompted me to create a criteria of the business I want to start. Then came the research, I was looking for a business that can withstand recession and AI proof business. We found property management businesses to be a great fit because the rental leases are normally locked in for a year or more and the workforce cannot easily be replaced by AI because it requires emotional and human touch.
I went ahead to immediately study for my real estate license, set up a corporation, and put everything together. After we launched the business, our son was born 3 days later!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our property management company is a one stop shop which offers leasing, property management, buying, and selling. What sets us apart is we refund the landlord management fees up to 12 months when they list with us. For our tenants, 2% of their rent accumulated with us will be paid toward their closing costs if they use agents from Earnest Homes. This is a win-win for everyone!
We have created a 100% remote company even before Covid. I am proud to provide work/life balance to all of our team members. Of course, this did not come without a challenge since the information flow is not the same as working in the office. We have to create systems, training and software for remote work. Quite-quitting is not acceptable and will be filtered out almost immediately. If you work from home, trust is earned not given!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Koreatown because the food scene competition there is insane. There are new restaurants and fusion places pop up almost weekly then go to Santa Monica Pier after. What is the best place to represent LA than California Coast?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to thank the education I received from NARPM(NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY MANAGERS). This is a group of property managers and committed leaders helping each other to get better in our business.
