Meet Jessica Davis: Founder / President of Boomer’s Buddies Rescue

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what do you want your legacy to be?
I deeply care about animals. So I hope I leave a legacy of someone who cared for and helped save the lives of many animals that wouldn’t otherwise have a chance.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the founder and President of Boomer’s Buddies Rescue, a non-profit dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and cats that are most vulnerable. We specialize in taking in animals that need medical care or animals that are a little shy or scared. I have always been very passionate about animals since I was a small child and decided to follow my heart’s desire and start a non-profit to better serve these animals in need. I was inspired to start one after I rescued my dog Boomer, who was in a shelter for four long years. He was suffering from ‘kennel crazy’ and was deteriorating rapidly in the shelter system and also had heartworms, a potentially fatal medical ailment. After I rescued him, he became an integral part of my family and a true joy! He was the inspiration behind Boomer’s Buddies Rescue because I knew more animals needed help to make it out of the shelter system alive. Although we are a dog/cat rescue, I love all animals and don’t discriminate in the animals I help. I have been able to offer my help with other animal species such as chickens, tortoises, opossums, and pigs!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Malibu California and it’s the mecca for hiking and being out in nature. My favorite spots are the hiking trails nearby, which offer incredible views of the ocean and canyons. There are hiking spots here that make you feel like you’re in Arizona and then some other areas that immerse you in the beautiful greenery that these canyons have to offer. It is truly magical! We also have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world here. There are amazing tidepools and you will also for sure spot some wildlife such as seals, sea lions, whales, dolphins etc!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I saw a documentary on the plight of the Asian elephants called Love and Bananas and was inspired by Lek Chailert who is the founder of Elephant Nature Park in Thailand and is also an animal advocate. She has dedicated her life to the protection of animals, especially elephants. I decided to go and visit her and volunteer at her sanctuary in Thailand and it was life-changing. Her love, respect, and determination is a force to be reckoned with and she has changed the way her county views the elephants. She is someone who has inspired me to follow my life’s mission to caring for and protecting animals.
