We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Johnston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been very independent with an entrepreneurial spirit. Even as a kid I liked to find little ways of making money. I remember one day, I was sitting at my desk at this big corporate job and the quote of the day came up on my computer. It was by Tony Gaskins and it said “ If you don’t build your dreams, someone will hire you to help build theirs.” That just hit home for me. I remember having this feeling, this urge to get out there and make a name for myself instead of helping someone else grow. Once I got going working for myself I found this passion and drive, I was more motivated and the creative ideas just keep flowing.

I really like helping people feel good about themselves and confident in their own skin. So I started this journey as a Makeup Artist, which lead to understanding skincare better, then it trickled to spray tanning and now I am a licensed esthetician. As an artist I watched so many women come across my chair who would take great care of themselves with facials, staying physically active, eating healthy, and everything they tell us to do to appreciate ourselves, but they would have chemical-based tans. This was always so confusing to me because what goes on your skin goes in. I knew there had to be a better, safer option so my mission to find a more healthy solution option began. Fast forward years later I have created my own tanning company with a safe and healthy solution option. I also offer a pampering service in the comfort of your own home with the ability to formulate custom solutions with skincare properties.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a business owner, I am most proud of the reputation I have built. Most of our clients are referral-based. I pride myself on providing the best products and services to our clients while building true relationships. It’s a great feeling when all those qualities are recognized by another person. It has given Le Luxe the great opportunity to expand to Nashville and work on the next chapters of this company’s story. I have been very blessed to have met people along the way who believe in me and my company. They have been a tremendous support as friends, professional networks, and loyal clients. It hasn’t always been easy though. Every entrepreneur has struggles, it’s what you learn from them that makes the difference.

My brand, Le Luxe, is a luxury mobile airbrush tanning company. Our goal is to enhance your confidence by formulating a complexion-customized solution. We believe that it’s more than just tanning, it’s about skincare. This is why all our formulas are infused with organic and ethically sourced skin-supporting serums and ingredients. As an esthetician, it’s important to give my clients the most natural tropical summer tan while providing ingredients that restore, replenish and balance the skin. Our warm-hearted approach, precision to contouring, consistently delivering a seamless look, and exquisite service have made Le Luxe a sought-after company in the industry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been very blessed to have people in my corner who believe in me and support my business. I could give you a long list of people that deserve recognition for love, support, and encouragement. However, there are two people who really stand out and deserve a little credit, with some love and thanks. First is my best friend Kristen Gonzales, she has been my sounding board and hype girl since we were 7 years old. No matter what the crazy idea was, the risks, the uncertainty, or my own fear getting in the way she has always supported and encouraged me to follow my instincts and not give up. She has pushed and supported me through the highs and lows. I really couldn’t ask for a better best friend, I feel very blessed.

Another wonderful person who has been a great supporter and sounding board is Barbara Guillaume. Barbara is a celebrity men’s groomer and has really helped me network in the industry and supported my company every step of the way. She has been a mentor to me in the makeup artist/men’s grooming world and helped me navigate my way around the industry in LA. She really helped open some doors for me and I can’t thank her enough. Barbara is also the creator and co-founder of Circa 1970, a luxury face oil. You should really check out her product.
