We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Parker And Tanya Johnson See Above and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica Parker and Tanya Johnson, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started Girl… Call Me with Tanya and Jessica because it was something we naturally said to each other when life happened, and we just needed someone to share it with. It was our way of creating a safe space, and that safety led to deeper conversations that we felt comfortable having with each other, especially during the summer of 2020 when there was so much going on.

At that time, there were things we didn’t feel comfortable discussing with colleagues, but we could always say, “Girl, call me,” and that five-minute check-in would turn into an hour-long conversation about life. We both had our own circles of friends, but we realized that the conversations we were having with each other were something other Black women could benefit from too.

People in our lives started saying, “Y’all should really record these talks because Black women don’t have enough of these conversations out loud.” And that’s how the idea for the podcast came to life. Girl…Call Me with Tanya and Jessica became a space for those real, raw conversations that we felt needed to be shared.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What we want the world to know about Girl…Call Me with Tanya and Jessica is that it’s more than just a podcast—it’s a safe space for Black women to have real, unfiltered conversations. Our brand is about vulnerability, empowerment, and community. We aim to create a platform where Black women can be seen, heard, and celebrated, sharing stories that resonate and inspire. We want to remind the world that our voices, our experiences, and our connections matter, and we’re here to uplift and empower each other every step of the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely would have to include a garden like the LA Arboretum or Huntington Gardens and if it’s the summer catching a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. We have an amazing art scene so it would include a Miracle Mile museum tour and Graffiti Mile.

A Sunday brunch at Joyce in DTLA or Alta Adams in West Adams and dinner at Takami Sushi & Robata Restaurant.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to give a huge shout out to all the Black women professionals out there. We’ve been so blessed to interview some incredible women—MDs, educators, midwives, authors, trainers, life coaches, therapists—the list goes on. Through Girl…Call Me with Tanya and Jessica, we’ve made it our mission to give a platform to these accomplished women who don’t always get the recognition they deserve.

Our show is all about elevating and empowering women, creating a space where their stories can be heard, and where we lift each other up. We’re here to celebrate Black women and give them the spotlight they’ve more than earned.
