We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Ritter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what do you attribute your success to?
Positivity. Hands down. I am the director of Business Development and Marketing at MAS but my unofficial title is head cheerleader. I actually never thought about the attitude and perspective that I bring to my work until I repeatedly got the same feedback from colleagues. But, it is such an important differentiator in the kind of work that I do. Every day I go out into the world and represent our company and try to move our brand forward. Whether that is with bringing in new and diverse clients or solidifying MAS as the leading experiential agency in the country. My job is difficult, everyday I get what some would say is a “rejection” a “no.” Thus, the life of someone in sales. But, I don’t have time for that negativity. I’m on to the next opportunity, I’m hyped by the thrill of getting to work with the most exciting and innovative brands in the industry. I’ve got a bottle of champagne chilled for the inevitable win! And isn’t that what it comes down to? If you are positive, you are going to see so many more things as wins, you are going to become more confident, you are going to stop sweating the small stuff and you are going to start to drink a lot more Champagne!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I found my way into events through acting. I always loved the thrill of a live production and experiential marketing allows for that same sense of emotion, wonder and impact. Once I started in events however I really needed to find my way. I began in production and found that wasn’t for me. I transitioned into strategy and found that too wasn’t for me. BUT, I loved events, I am passionate about creating a moment that makes the audience stop and think and re-think. It wasn’t until a mentor of mine asked if I would join his team that I really found my groove. Why didn’t I know this all along? New business is all about relationships and connections, understanding people’s needs and being an authentic partner. A lot like acting eh? I think for the most part people end up in the right career and all the stops along the way, that may at the time feel like dead ends, inform your ultimate “dream job.” So my advice is to take risks, explore, learn and grow and again don’t sweat the winding path!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
SO many people! Mentors are one of the best gifts. I am lucky enough to call MAS a family and the executives have let me grow and thrive. Thanks to Mia, Raymond and Nikki for letting me be a unicorn and find my stride.
