Meet Jiaqing Ge | Film Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jiaqing Ge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jiaqing, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
In my line of work, (Film Production) it is very hard to have a consistency or a routine when you’re starting out and even when you’re established in this business, a film can take you anywhere. As exciting as going to an exotic locations for some times, it has taken a toll on me with my wife and family. I am very lucky that my wife is in the same field as me so she understands it, but there are still moments we wish that we were together. What we ended up figured out is that we like to make every second together count because you never where you would end up in a few month. I was just on location out of the country for a couple of month where I had to miss our anniversary and Chinese new year so what we did is that we had celebrated that earlier before I left because the important thing is that we are together.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a film producer and what I am really proud of is to bring the right people together for the right job and to create something. I am very passionate about storytelling and it is a very satisfying feeling when something that you had imagined come to life. It wasn’t a easy process to get to where I am because it is a very competitive industry and as someone who is a minority, you need to work extra hard to really get into Hollywood. I think the key is that you shouldn’t give up and always keep an open mind about things because you never know where it will lead to. You need to be very persistent and have a thick skin. Being told no is a very common thing in this industry and you just simply cannot have that get to you.
I think the important thing is that storytellers have a moral obligation because their project has a social impact which I think is what being successful is all about, not the amount of money you make but how much of an impact that you created in a society.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is a big city and there is much to see here. I think they should definitely go to the major attractions like the Hollywood Blvd, Santa Monica Pier and Griffith Observatory, They should also go to something more local like having some authentic Chinese in food in San Gabriel and see the Hollywood sign from a dog park near the Reservoir in Hollywood hills.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ruijia Wang. My brilliant wife, collaborator and partner in crime. She is caring and understanding, very supportive of my career. She is always there to be and is always very straightforward and always keeps me on my feet. I couldn’t be who I am without her.
