We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Lasky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?

As a new young pediatric dentist, I believed that I needed to put ALL my energy into my professional life. My evenings and weekends consisted of either taking care of my children’s needs or the needs of my dental practice. As a result, so much of my identity was wrapped around my successes and failures at the office. Then, about 10 years into practicing, a “light bulb” when off……Just because I am a GREAT dentist doesn’t mean I am feeling GREAT. I realized I needed more balance in my life if I wanted to practice for another 30+ years. I also needed to learn how to separate my feelings about my work day from the rest of my day. All business owners are going to have professional highs and lows but when you can find the ability to roll with the ups and downs and not let them define how you feel about yourself, I believe you have achieved balance between your work and professional life.

What should our readers know about your business?

At the Lasky Pediatric Dental Group, our mission is to care for our young patients and their families like they were part of our extended family. Everyone who enters our pediatric dental office is treated with exceptional oral health care but more importantly with kindness, compassion, and respect. Whether it’s your infant’s first visit or your teenager’s last, the Lasky Pediatric Dental Group will provide them with individualized care, education, and a personalized treatment plan. Our dentistry for children team is committed to making your child’s experience at our dental office a positive one – no matter how old they are. Our goal is to help young patients develop confidence in treatment, and to instill in them healthy dental habits that last a lifetime.

We know pediatric dentistry plays an important role in shaping a child’s attitude toward their dental health. My approach to treating children involves listening to their fears and concerns even before they get in the dental chair. We can adapt the treatment plan as needed to ensure the child feels comfortable and safe in our care. I  bring awareness to parents that their child’s mouth is the gateway to the rest of their body. As such, we teach that taking regular and thorough care of your teeth and gums is an important part of a child’s overall physical good health.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

When I visit a new city, I like to immerse myself into the local’s favorite places to eat and hangout. So, a trip to Disneyland or the Santa Monica pier are not go-to’s for my out of town guest. Instead, I would start our day with a trip to Studio City to visit my favorite vegan haunt, Raw Junkies for a smoothie or Red Window Coffee for a wonderful latte. Then we would head to one of the local flee markets at Pierce College (Topanga Vintage Market), FairFax High School (Melrose Trading Post) or The Rose Bowl (Rose Bowl Flea Market) to hunt for vintage clothing and treasures. The weekend would also include a beautiful drive to one of my favorite hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean from the high mountain peaks. Staying with the local theme, we would dine in Sherman Oaks at either family owned gems, La Cava or Mizlala and end the evening by taking a drive to on outlook on Mulholland to see the Valley lit up at night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would not have been able to have a wonderful professional and personal life without the loving support of my husband and business partner Michael Lasky. He is the ultimate partner in all aspects of my life. In addition, I am grateful for my network of supportive family and friends who consistently cheer me on throughout all chapters of my life.
