We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Hua and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmy, what principle do you value most?
The most important principle that matters to me, especially as an artist in music, is to never let commerce get in the way of the craft. This is absolutely crucial because if you lead with commerce through art, you end up creating mediocre art and something that is less than. However, if you truly serve the art and offer your best in the process, the reward is beyond fulfilling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a child of immigrant refugees, being frugal truly conditioned me to figure out how to do things that I like on my own or be vocal enough to find someone that can teach me. With this mentality, I eventually learned how to play guitar, sing, write music, record music, mix and master audio, and so much more out of necessity. My journey was far from easy and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The more I reflect back on my journey, the more I find myself smiling with joy. My path as a creative in music is a story of personal struggle. It’s the main outlet I have for myself to express my journey of heartbreak, failure, addiction, love, and so much more. All I want the world to know about my story is that I’m still just a boy that wants to sing to the world. I’ve finally found my voice and I have a story to tell.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit me in the city, we would ultimately eat our weight in food and enjoy ourselves with no remorse.

If my friend was craving American food, I would take them to the following:
1. For The Win
2. Canter’s
3. Apple Pan (only for the pie)
4. Roma Market (best Italian sandwich in Pasadena)

If my friend was craving Asian food, I would take them to the following:
1. Dumpling House (Arcadia)
2. Anywhere in OC for Vietnamese food (Pho 79, Quan Vy Da Restaurant)

We would also squeeze in some tacos from Taco Zone in Echo Park area.

Now that food is out of the way, I would take my friend to the Getty Museum or MOCA for some art, check out Comedy Store for a good laugh, and check out some live shows as there’s no shortage of shows in CA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe my life and successes to my whole family, core friends, and mentors that have helped me immensely along my journey. Without them, I wouldn’t have been courageous enough to pursue my passion in music and create something meaningful for myself and my community.
