We had the good fortune of connecting with Jisoo Jeong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jisoo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up, I always had an enthusiasm for making miniature sets alone, and spent most of my time drawing and making sculptures. Art is essential for developing confidence, individuality, and creativity, and essentially develops the ability to cope with life’s happiness and tragedies and develops the inner power to overcome difficulties. Also, art is one of the ways of expressing my inner self, but it can also be interpreted in various ways by others. I am currently working as a production designer, and I think it is an amazing job because I’m able to meet and communicate with creative people. Isn’t it wondwerful that what you imagined actually became a movie set?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from others is that there are no impossible things to me. I always find out the best solutions. I studied fine arts for a long time around over 10 years but I also studied graphic arts, sculpting, and stage design and I think it helps me now to think in various ways.

Sometimes I went through a hard time because I felt like the boundaries between my work and life were disappearing. I think that’s because my workplace and resting place was not separated. It is important to be able to rest and work more efficiently when taking a break by separating the space.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I’m staying in LA, studying production design, I will guide them to prop houses. I think people will be interested in those places touring movie studios to see behind the scene of Hollywood. For example, Warner Bros studio, Universal studio, or Academy museum. I would also take them to Griffith Observatory to see the beautiful views of Los Angeles. The most exciting thing here is that you can meet people from various backgrounds, so I’d love to introduce my friends to them.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was born and raised in Seoul, Korea, and my parents always supported me to be an artist. I studied Fine Arts even before teenager, so I appreciate my parents because if they want me to be a teacher, lawyer or something else, I would have never been able to pursue my dream. I love to see musicals or visit art galleries but my biggest inspiration is film, especially stop-motion movies. I watched all of the stop-motion films such as Corpse Bride, Coraline, and Fantastic Mr.Fox. I used to make the miniature set, it is something that I can do every day!
