Meet JLaconn

We had the good fortune of connecting with JLaconn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JLaconn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because in that space of being a creative, I’m the most vulnerable and reachable. It’s my happy place and I feel that people can relate to me the most when I’m in that space! Not to mention, I’ve been singing and performing since I was 5. So it’s second nature to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

You know this is very interesting, because to myself, I obviously achieved a certain amount of success. Sometime, I still look at myself as a struggling artist. My bank account do not add up with the things that I have achieved in my life! Hollywood is very hard, and it is not an easy journey. You’re always trying to figure out the next way to stand out and to make yourself relevant! Now the best advice that I can give someone is to always be yourself. Trust your gut and know that you are valuable in whatever you set your mind to.

I am still teaching myself how to overcome challenges, but I always fight and I will never give up! The moment you decide to do that, you have already lost. So I tell myself daily that everything in life you can only get told yes or no, and it doesn’t matter the form of how it come. It’s still a yes or no! Remembering my value and worth.

The one most important thing I have learned along the way is that authenticity is so important! Be humble, be kind, and be the person that people can’t seem to get enough of!

I want the world to know that I am here to do what I love with everything inside of me, and they could do the same. I am just here to be a positive light. Now that doesn’t mean that I’m always positive, (LOL) but I strive really hard to do so! I want people to look back at me years from now and even now too  “ha ha let’s not forget the present.” And just say J Laconn was here! He is and was someone that I could relate to. He was honest and he impacted the world in the most positive way!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many beautiful places in LA! So my friends that know me know that my favorite place is  McDonald’s. Now I know that is funny, but to be fair I really love to go to places like Santa Monica beach, I like trying different little eating spots around different parts of LA and Hollywood. And hey, you get me good dancing bar or club I’m happy! But I guess my favorite places to go will be live events, comedy clubs, and open mics!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So first and foremost I always want to give a shout out to God! Without him I wouldn’t be where I am today! Secondly, I want to give a shout out to my parents. They’ve  been there every step of the way. Along with my siblings and all my families and friends! I was first inspired by Michael Jackson and every since then I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I’m inspired by people in music and acting and just people that I’m surrounded by. Beyonce is also a huge inspiration to me and so is Bruno Mars! Don’t mean to make this recognition too long but there are so many people that have helped me or inspired me along the way and I can’t name them all. But I also want to thank my teachers, my church members, my close friends, and my producers that have all played important roles in my life.  I’m so thankful for them!
